September 9, 200619 yr ASv6 starts up automatically with Windows and then goes through an offline loading process (I do not use online mode). Which Wx file is it loading up by default? The main screen shows "Active wx: 1511502" at the top - but this doesn't relate to any wx foile I can find. What does that number signify?More importantly, how do I get AS to load up the offline weather data that I choose, as default at startup. As it is, when it has finished loading whatever it is loading at start-up, I then have to click 'Load Wx' and choose my own offline weather file. It then goes through the loading process again, which takes some time. But the main screen still shows "Active wx: 1511502".Thanks.Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
September 10, 200619 yr Hi Martin,On startup in Offline mode ASv6 will use the weather file it last used.A possible work around is to start ASv6 Paused, load your weather file, and click the refresh botton. You can do this after placing your plane at your departing airport.Let us know what you think,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 10, 200619 yr Author Thanks for the comment Jim. I'll try starting the programme paused. How can I tell though which data file is already loaded, as "Active wx: 1511502" doesn't corrspond to any files that I can find - cerianly not one of my downloaded weather files.M. September 10, 200619 yr Hi,Do a search on your system for archive.dat files. It doesn't need to be in the ASv6 folder. Also, the naming can be changed as long as the .dat stays.See what you can find,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 10, 200619 yr Author I have no files called 'archive.dat' - I don't expect that was what you meant though. No matter - if, as you say, AS loads up the same .dat file each time it starts until I change it, that is fine. And starting in paused mode means that when I do want to change it, I don't have to wait for AS to load up the currently selected one.M. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
September 24, 200619 yr Author Jim,Hi there. I am still at a bit of a loss here. Still can't see how I check which weather file has been loaded in AS6. I have 24 .dat (METAR) files downloaded, 2 for each month, as I don't usually fly online. I load one of these at startup, and an AS message box says that the file I selected as been loaded. The dat file names all relate to the month and week - e.g. 01-15.dat or 06-01.dat. But I can never see any mention of these file names once they have been loaded.I'd really like to be able to check this, as AS6 seems stuck in heavily overcast weather, no matter what part of the world or season I choose. If I load up a dat file that I downloaded for, say April and place myself in central India, there is no way I am going to get rain and heavy cloud there at that time of year - it's clear blue skies and 3-figure temperatures for months on end. But the weather files I downloaded are the METARs issued for the date I chose, so why am I getting this unrealistic weather all the time? It would help to troubleshoot this if I could see from which file AS6 was reading..Thanks again,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
September 25, 200619 yr Hi Martin,Everyone has a different approach of renaming their saved weather files so we don't show the name of the acutal file. But we do use the METAR day and time of the file. The saved format is: yyyymmdd_XXZ. Once loaded in ASv6, those are listed in standard METAR format at the top of the ASv6 screen after Active wx:XXXXXXZ and in the METAR window: ICAO XXXXXXZ.....No, there is not a way to display the month of a standard METAR, as the cycling repeates itself each month. If FS04 is displaying the same basic weather, then we need to look at your settings in ASv6 and FS04. In FS04 is Weather set to user defined? Please post your ASv6.ini settings that you are using right now. Thanks much,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 25, 200619 yr Author Jim, Whatever METAR file I load, (I start AS paused, so I choose 'Load Wx', then select a downloaded METAR file, e.g. 0101.dat, AS message box confirms that this file has been loaded, then I click 'Refresh'), the main AS window always shows "Active wx: 1511502". That number doesn't relate to any file I have on my PC - don't know what it relates to or what the numbers mean. When FS9 starts, the weather is always pre-set to user defined, yes. This is my current ini file. Maybe you can spot something to account for this. September 25, 200619 yr Author BTW, I just noticed that, when I click 'refresh', the first message I get, on the main AS window, is "20051219_09Z_archive.dat not found, unable to synch with offline data".AS then carries on the offlineloading and I get "Offline update completed (new sequence file not found)..."Is the cause of this problem the missing dat file? I did say earlier that I had nothing called '... archive.dat' on my PC. If so, where do I find this file. Thanks again Jim.M. :-) Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
September 25, 200619 yr Hi,A few things are making sense now, so thanks for those notes.1. In Options turn Off Enable Offline Sequence Playback2. In options turn Off Use System Time. The first one may be the cause of your problem. To use sequenced files, the files must be downloaded on your machine. And because you don't have sequenced files downloaded you are getting this message. So try this: make those changes and Save. Then pick a file and click refresh. Then open FS04 and see what happens. Please let us know,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 28, 200619 yr Author So far so good. The weather is not stuck in overcast mode now. I already had 'Use System Time' off by the way. Did you mean turn it on??I still get the odd refrence to the unknow wx file at the top of the main screen and still don't see any way to find out which METAR file is currently loaded. Maybe it's not possible?Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
September 28, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi Martin,If you are using TAF processing then 'use system time' should probably be off to sync with FS time. Otherwise, it's not important assuming you're not using offline sequential playback (should not be with independant wx downloads).AS always keeps the last weather loaded as 'active'. So the way to tell what file you have loaded is to load it, and it will remain that way until you enable online updates or load a new file. As to an error during loading, have you confirmed your offline sequential playback is OFF? I would highly recommend using the "Set Defaults" button in options to restore things to default settings.. there may be other options you have enable effecting things, and as far as using offline wx is concerned, the default options will work great! If you have any error messages please give us details and the steps/files to reproduce - it would be much appreciated!Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
September 28, 200619 yr Author "have you confirmed your offline sequential playback is OFF?"... Yes, it is.All seems OK on the settings I have, so will stick with that unless i get further problems. Thanks. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
