October 1, 200619 yr Good Sunday morning Jim, Damien, et al,Having begun my first FSX Addon Download this morning (FSGenesis North America Mesh), this AS question came to mind.I currently run ASv6-SU5-GEPro2 on my WideFS/Remote PC and plan to update that installation with v6.5 upon its release, Oct 17th,right? LOL... Like many others, I plan to install FSX alongside my current FS9 installation, at least for the short-term anyway. My question is, will ASv6.5 detect and handle both FS9 and FSX concurrant installations, locally and over WideFS? I guess you would have to allow for more than one (FS9 & FSX) path statements or variables in the ini file or something. I'm concerned that if we want to alternate our usage of FS9 and FSX, we'll wind up having to reconfigure ASv6.5 paths each time we switch simulators. Thanks again for taking care of us greatful customers.:-walksmilev/r, Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
October 1, 200619 yr Hi Al,Damian and I just chatted about this stuff a few days ago.Once ASv6.5 is out you will be able to do all of this. ASv6.5 will prompt you as to which version of FS you are going to run and then set itself up accordingly. We are shooting for the earliest date possible, but we do want to work as many things out as possible before a release. That requires some beta testers to have FSX installed and running well!!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
October 1, 200619 yr Author Hi Jim,Thanks for the feedback. But, from what you indicate "set itself up acordingly," does this mean AS will prompt us for which Sim prior to starting AS every time? Or, perhaps a FS9/FSX choice in the Options that we can easily switch?Just trying to think ahead about how I'll setup my rigs with both version...PS, if you're looking for beta volunteers, just give me a hollar...Thanks again... October 1, 200619 yr Hi,On a dual FS installation, I believe yes each time. I don't think we can save 2 configs and then know when to switch between the 2. Let's just see how the final version will work!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
October 2, 200619 yr Jim/DamianI have been running the latest FSX Beta ( mainly on Vista 5728 ) and also use ASV6/GE Pro. I run FS9 in a widefs environment with many addons including ASV6/GE Pro. I also run FSXFS9 on a seperate system I would be more than happy to assist with feedback and testing if your interested. I have been keeping FS9 and FSX seperate but would do a combined install on on PC if your interestedLet me know Thanks again for the great team work with GE Pro and all your future endeavors.Henry Adam
October 2, 200619 yr Jim,I'm pretty sure that a lot of AS users start AS via an icon on the desktop. I've also seen a lot of programs that allow a config file to be specified on the command line. As you know, an icon includes a complete command line used to start the program.Would you consider programming ASv6.5 to allow a config file to be specified on the command line? If this is done, then two icons can be created, each one specifying a different config file, one for FS9, and one for FSX.I'd much prefer this over having ASv6.5 prompt me everytime I start it up. Although, if no config file is specified at start up, then the prompt could be displayed.Just a suggestion.Thanks,...jim
October 2, 200619 yr Hi All,Thanks for all your suggestions and your willingness to help us out! To be fair to everyone, I suggest that you write to Damian directly instead of to the tell-us address. That way we'll know that he can consider all of these things. His e-mail: damianc(AT)hifisim.com. Then he can take all these things in!Thanks Everyone!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
