Should I wait to purchase AS v6.5 ?

Featured Replies

I would like to purchase AS v6.5 as long as there is no reason I should wait.I am a happy ASV customer on FS9. I also now have FSX but it does not run very well for me and I'm probably going to mostly shelve it for a few months while my favorite payware aircraft and other fixes are being developed. I would be happy to purchase AS v6.5 now for use in both FS9 and FSX (a little bit), but I am in no hurry. ASV works perfectly well for me in FS9.Will forseeable upcoming upgrades to AS v6.x be free to AS v6.5 customers? For example, the missing ASG, AR, and other planned enhancements for FSX). So, I won't regret buying it now even if I have no need for it for many months? Thanks,Jason

Hi Jason,If you already have ASV (as in Version 5) then you are entitled to a free ASv6 upgrade. Go to http://sales.hifisim.com/downloads.htm for this. Once you "upgrade" to ASv6 you can update to the latest 6.5 release. So in your case it's all free already...Best,

Hi Jason,Based on your situation, I would suggest making the purchase to ASv6.5. Of course the final decision is yours!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Well, what I mean is, are the ASG-like features and AR for FSX coming? ASv6.5 has many more features under FS9 than it does under FSX. There is a disclaimer on the HiFiSim website that indicates ASG does not work in FSX due to "technology differences" in the FS versions.I actually did purchase ASv6.5 a couple days ago (I just thought the question read better if I wrote "should I wait" than it would have if I wrote "did I make a mistake" :))The disclaimer was not there a couple of days ago when I went to purchase, or at least I didn't see them. It only said that the ASG features for FSX were under development. Today I read the disclaimers in bold red say those features are compatible only with FS9, and there is no indication that they are coming. I'm almost sure that the notice was worded differently yesterday.I'm just making a guess that there is more to come in the AS development for FSX as either part of ASv6.5 or as a free upgrade to those who directly purchased ASv6.5 (at least features equivalent to ASv6.5 under FS9). I have seen many people's ASG screenshots and they are wonderful. I would really like to have the ASG random cloud textures/sky colors under FSX.Thanks,Jason

Hi Jason,As for the new ASv6.5 product page, this was only made available simultaneous to the release of 6.5.Concerning the news items about the upcomming 6.5 update, I believe everything mentioned clearly explained that AR and ASG would not be FSX compatible. We too would love to see FSX-specific upgraded sky and cloud textures and it is indeed being worked on. It does require a complete re-design and is not based on earlier works, and although we haven't decided on any pricing structures, I'm confident that it will not be free nor will it be bundled with AS. There's many hundreds and potentially thousand(s) of man-hours involved and while we love to add new free functionality for our users, there are certain limits in major items such as this.Pertaining to radar, its a bit early really to speculate. We're working on it but have no idea how it will be offered. We'll provide some more information on our future developments soon.Best,

That is not necessarily a bad reply. If what you are saying is that we will not be getting a single AS for FSX which includes all of the features of the current AS for FS9 then it really does not matter when I purchase ASv6.5 -- because ASv7x isn't going to include these features either.I am just a little bit disapointed, though, because ASv6.5 for FSX does not add anywhere near as much to the sim as it did for FS9 (less price/value). There's no ASG, and many of the Option descriptions in the user manual say "not compatible" or "not applicable" to FSX. I'm satisfied with my purchase, but I was hoping for more. Thanks for your help,Jason
