November 3, 200619 yr JimI have been using ASV6 and WideFS with FS9 for some time and have loved every minute of it. Not really any problems in a networked setup what so ever. I have had FSX installed for several weeks now and even with all the tweaks I can't stand the performance on FSX so I have pretty much been using FS9 since I do 90% of my time doing online Vatsim flights. Both FS9 and FSX are installed on the same PC and ASV6.5 is on another networked PC.The issue I have is that I recently pulled up ACtive Radar in FS9 while enroute as there were some storms up ahead. When I pulled up Active Radar my FPS literally dropped from 20-25 in Virtual Cockpit mode to 0 and stayed there. Things leterally were frozen I waited almost a minte and when they didn't clean up I closed Active Radar and it immediately went back to 20-25 FPS. Just wondering as I haven't really seen many comments as to Active Radar Issue in FS9 after upgrading to ASV6.5/ Widefs7 and Fsuip4.03.All else work fine in FS9. All software (FSUIP/ Widefs etc) is registered BTW.Let me know if you need more info
November 3, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi,Sounds like alternate radar render mode is on in AR options, which cause cause this effect with certain video cards (well, most of them actually these days). You can change the option via AR screen itself or via the ActiveRadar.cfg file within the ModulesActiveRadar folder. I THINK this is what you're experiencing. Either way please let us know if this fixes things or not. Thanks!Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
November 8, 200619 yr Author DamianI double checked Alt Render mode and it was not selected. I pulled it up in flight again at FL320 on another flight and FPS dropped from ~22 FPS to ~ 7-8 FPS. Although this is some what better than things grinding to a halt this never occured in FS9 with ASV6. I am running FS9 on a Dell Gen3 Intel 3.8GZ with 2 GB ram and a ATI X850XT PE video card w/256MB. Nothing has changed on FS9 and the only additions have been the upgrade to ASV6.5,WideFs7 and FSUIPC 4.02(which is only utilized by FSX) Any other thoughts as to what is up with ASV6.5?ThanksHenry Adam
November 9, 200619 yr Hi Henry,Looks like the same issue as here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=29770&page=Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
November 9, 200619 yr Author JimYes it does sound the same, except this is ocurring on FS9 after upgrading to ASV6.5. I don't even bother running FSX right now due to performance issues. FS9 is using FSUIPC 3.63,remember 4.02/03 is for FSX only and doesn't affect anything with FS9. It gets installed in FSX only unless I misunderstood Peter's documentation/instructions.Is there any way short of a complete uninstall to roll back to ASV6?Thanks
November 9, 200619 yr Hi,What version of WideFS is being used?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
November 9, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi,The only change related to AR in v6.5 (compared to earlier builds of v6) was the addition of automatic fixing of the ActiveRadar.cfg file if certain values should become invalid (for unexplained reasons that a few isolated users experienced). It is possible that such values in the .cfg were corrupt before the update (although not causing any issues) and with 6.5 it "fixed" them causing different behavior. Haven't had similar reports so it might be something obscure with the specific options chosen, or possible file corruption. I am attaching a fresh-install ASv6 ActiveRadar.cfg file, which should go in the ModulesActiveRadar folder. Please try this without changing any options to see if the problem behavior goes away.If not, a re-install would be in order which you can do via add/remove programs and re-running the Asv6 full install setup.exe (if you upgraded from ASV, this would be in default location C:ActiveSky6InstallFiles). If you don't manually delete your ASv6/ActiveRadar/ASGraphics folders during this process, your saved data will all remain assuming you install back into the same location. FWIW, you could also try a "Repair" by running the same setup.exe before attempting full uninstall/reinstall. Might solve it.As Jim was hinting at, its indeed also worth making sure you are on the latest FSUIPC and WideFS versions for FS9.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
