I have just installed fsx using asv6 beta 536.I am experiencing a problem you will probally able to solve.Firstly i open fsx with fsautostart i then open flightplan etc then i open asv import flightplan once this is processed it immediatly starts fsx.In fs9 i used to do this manually clicking on the bottom task bar.ok i fly the flight plan arriving at destination while parked i set up new flight plan i then bring up asv import new flight plan etc then when it tries to call fsx up again i get a frozen black screen. At that point it appears that there is no way of activating fsx again. The only way i can is to restart the computer again.I am not sure what is going on here.................Regards robin

Hi Robin,I think I have an idea here:Try running FSX in Windowed Mode. It is a known problem, even by Microsoft. Please let us know.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Jim no change i noticed a couple of other errors. When load the first flight plan in asv it gives me the destination milege but when i reload a new flight plan parked at the destination terminal asv does not indicate destination milage.Other functions i tried when it ffreezes at the black screen i press escape and the menue for ending flight comes up i select end flight and the fsx start up meneu comes up i load new flight plan it then loads up textures etc when it has loaded 100% it simply just stops.Jim started up with out fsautostart i presume that what u meant..............regards robin

Hi,Don't use FS AutoStart because some Windows processes that are being stopped, may be needed by FSX.No, I really did mean to try and run in Windowed Mode for FSX! Many times AltTabbing can cause black screens. Please let us know,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Jim excuse my ignorance what do u mean window mode...............regards robin

Hi,Start a flight and press Alt/Enter keys. You should get FSX in a traditional window with a blue bar at the top and the Windows __ squares, and X in the right corner.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Jim,This is a problem that has been bugging me also since the days of the first release of Active Sky. I don't see that running the simulator Windowed is solution at all, as most fly full-screen, thus gaining all the benefits of 3D acceleration and without the need to look at ugly menu bars.Has it ever been considered to move the AS interface into the FS window to run as module that could be used from the sim menus itself. I'm not a programmer so I hope you understand what I mean. Would that not solve the whole problem once and for all?

Hi Kyle,If and when Microsoft fixes this issue then we will all be happy. With FS9 this was not an issue. So we wait for them! It's an issue for anyone who wishes to Alt/Tab out of FSX and I know there are a few workarounds out there like using the Start key on a Windows keyboard or using Task Manager to switch programs.A module is a step back because once you do that you eliminate all the users who wish to use a program over a network. Look at FSNav as an example. How many more users would they have if FSNav ran over a network? So a dll is not in the works.Thanks!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Actually, I'm having the problem with FS9 and AS4.5But that's not relevant, as the problem lies in the sim software itself - my FS9 installation crashes switching from full screen to windowed or alt-tabbing out, every time. Period.I know it's not Activesky's fault, but the interface being in an external window is effectively rendering the it useless for me, also keeping me from purchasing the latest version. If you know any other workarounds please let me know. I'll try the Windows key / task manager method.

Hi Kyle,That looks to be a video driver issue. You should be able to enter and exit FS04 with no problems.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Yes, that's what I've always been thinking too. I always use the latest official drivers (it's an ATI radeon X850 PCI-E), but the problem has never gone away completely, and I must have tried 5-7 driver sets already. The thread starter had the problem in FSX, but the symptoms are the same: black screen with a flickering "hourglass" cursor, and a subsequent crash, usually panels.dll.

> as most fly>full-screen, thus gaining all the benefits of 3D acceleration>and without the need to look at ugly menu bars.I thought the same thing and had a long discussion with several MSVP people and was told that there is NO DIFFERENCE in the 3D acceleration between full screen and windowed mode. Only difference is lack of menubar. There are other things that occur not related to 3D acceleration that can cause problems. After watching closely, I have to agree - I can see no difference visually other than the bar.Just MHO,VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/

Hi Kyle,A panels.dll crash leads to a bad panel or gauge for the plane you are flying. Can you duplicate this with a default FS04 plane? If you don't run AS does this happen?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
