January 26, 200719 yr There is something not quite right with my AS6 setup, but I can't fathom quite what: I have the same config options ticked as you recommended (Jim); I can post a screenshot of course ...When I start a flight the weather (using Beijing Intl, ZBAA, from where I am flying as I write this, as an example) is foggy. After a couple of minutes it clears. OK, fine. But then by the time I get to the runway, five or more minutes later, dense clouds suddenly appear. After another minute they change back to the original overcast fog. Once I am airborne the clouds immediately return....ATIS reports agree with the weather I see BTW, visibility announced as one mile one minute, clear the next.I start up AS6 as you once advised: it opens paused; I select an offline weather data file; then, after the OK message, I import a flight and process it. This gives me the data page, which I close. I then click 'refresh'. Once the offline update is complete, I 'hide' the window. I think that is what you advised as being the best method, as I rarely fly the sim online. Is there some way I can stabilise all this? Thanks,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
January 26, 200719 yr Hi Martin,Please post your ASv6.ini file and I'll take a look. January 27, 200719 yr Hi,Let's try:Disable Ground Updates Off.I would also lower the your suppression ceiling. Please let us know!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
January 27, 200719 yr Author Jim, That doesn't seem to have helped I'm afraid. From startup of FS9 to more or less take-off, the weather doesn't seem to be able to make up its mind: one moment it's overcast, then blue skies with clouds, then the clouds turn back to overcast skies again, and so on, every minute or two. I know the programme needs time to settle down, but this doesn't look right at all.Once I am airborne, things seem OK ...M. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
January 28, 200719 yr Hi,Is this on the laptop that you have the settings listed? What are your frames locked at? What may be happening is that your system is not able to keep up, and one of the first things that FS drops are clouds. You may need to lock at a lower number or lower some settings in FS. Airports are heavy on a system also. That is why things imporve once you start your flight. Please let us know,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
January 28, 200719 yr Author It's not the system Jim, I am sure - this is a laptop designed for gaming (and cost me Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
January 28, 200719 yr Hi,Try with a lock at 30 and then again at 25.Please let us know,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
January 29, 200719 yr Commercial Member Hi,I notice you have TAF processing on. This may be part of the reason for changing wx conditions.. I would turn this off to rule this out. Another reason for this could be other wx stations in the direct vicinity that have differing wx conditions being specified, with different areas of the airport switching to new 'closest' station and thus different depicted wx.With Ground Updates disabled, you shouldn't see any changes on the ground once the initial wx loads.. any changes would be a direct result of FS9 depiction due to new closest station... so the mulitple stations w/ different data sounds like the probable cause. If this is the case, if you let us know which station has invalid or inconsistent wx (you can verify this by observing the AS screen "closest station" data) we can review it and modify/delete it if found problematic.Hope that helps.. January 29, 200719 yr Author I'll re-tick the disable ground updates box and also try without TAF. You may well be right about the wx files, as it doesn't happen at all airports. I'll try again at Beijing Intl.; there was certainly a problem there. Might take me a while to troubleshoot this though.Thanks. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
January 31, 200719 yr Author It will take me some time to see if this has changed things at all - I have set the fps limit to 30, which may have helped: certainly there's no visible difference in overall smoothnes at the slightly reduces fps setting.I have noticed another problem though - not sure whether to start another thread. I am getting small clouds suddenly appearing very close to the aircraft. (I've not noticed this as a problem before). In a cloudy sky this is noticeable, but in an otherwise clear sky, haze apart, having these small clouds pop up so suddenly and so close up to the aircraft is very odd - almost makes you jump! Does this ring any bells, re. a cure? I have my cloud and sight draw distanes set pretty much over to the right of the FS9 slider (I don't like the effect with lower distance settings), but changing things there doesn't seem to make much difference in any case. I also reduced max cloud layers from 5 to 4 in AS6. No help...I posted a screenshot of my options window earlier ..Thanks again,Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
February 1, 200719 yr Hi Martin,Clouds at 100%3D in FS?Also, try with suppression range set to 100.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
February 1, 200719 yr Author Hi again Jim.Yes, I have 100% 3D in FS (some horrible effects if not I found). I'll change the suppression range as you suggest.Thanks!M. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
