January 27, 200719 yr I am sorry Jim, but I have to report a new record - on last days ( JAN 26 ) flight from JFK to HAM I had another FIRST :On not a single sector of the flight the forecast winds were correct according to AS NAV LOG from 1 hour prior departure !Here my recordings :JFK - PUT Forecast 258/ 80 actual 320/60to ENE fcst 262/94 act 300/40to DOTTY fcst 257/48 act 230/11to CRONO fcst 130/25 act 180/27to 5250N fcst 130/25 act 220/45to 5440N fcst 130/25 act varies from 180/55 to 210/30to 5530N fcst 198/18 act varies from 240/60 to 250/100to 5420N fcst 198/18 act varies from 290/65 to 300/80to DUB fcst 203/45 act mainly NORTH at 35to EEL fcst 030/70 act NORTH at 50Do you have any explanation ? January 27, 200719 yr Hi,Sorry for that. I would suggest there was a data problem somewhere along the line. January 30, 200719 yr ( FSX ) + ( ASV6.5 )I'd like to report than on my flight last night from Managua to Panama City, upper air winds were not anywhere near the reported upper air values in either direction or speed,and...the upper air winds were shifting radically, sometimes within a few seconds. (!) Actually to me that is the biggest issue. After all, I'd expect dir and spd to be slightly off given interaction between nearby wx stations...but the radical shifting...noIs there a possible FSX problem with upper air winds? Or is something strange going on between the way ASV and FSX talk regarding winds? Or is it just the weather data?Did something change between FS9 and FSX in the way they handle winds?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
January 30, 200719 yr Hi Mace,A few things with FSX that we cannot do anything about right now:Directions are going to be off. Not sure about the speeds. There is no smoothing control right now.So yes, there is quite a difference right now. Remember, it took quite awhile for everyone to get FS9 winds settled down!!We are all awaiting an internal fix from MS for this.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
January 30, 200719 yr >>We are all awaiting an internal fix from MS for this.>Thanks for the discussion Jim..Now that you mention it, I think I remember another thread about upper air winds in FSX, and in that thread I think someone mentioned that they had e-mailed Microsoft about the problem. But SP1 is supposed to be a performance patch, not really a content patch...so maybe we won't see anything in this SP1?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

February 3, 200719 yr Author Hi Jim,what do you mean by a length of time ?Yesterdays flight on 737 from LEAL to EDDT ALL winds were completely OFF . . . Todays from KSFO to KBOS winds were just perfect !Any explanation for this ?Another subject : I need a formula to calculate the wind component - I found one by googleing but this formula does not matches the calculations in your nav log . . . Formula : windspeed * COS (( winddirection - 180 )- (true track + wind angle corr ) * PI / 180Results show correct values with head/tail winds up to an angle of about 25 degrees - results with crosswinds are not correct with this formula.Have a nice weekend Karl-Heinz Wichmann - EDDI/THF "Tempelhof" "The mother of all airports" - Sir Norman Foster Now CLOSED - its a shame !
February 3, 200719 yr Hi Karl,Do you have the FP for that LEAL flight? Not sure why your winds are off. Have you tried resetting FSUIPC to default settings and weather settings off?Due to averaging in the Nav Log that is why the calculations are off. FSBuild is a planner that would give better winds. That formula is the best that I know of.Please let me know about the flight plan.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

February 4, 200719 yr Hi Karl,So that I better understand: what are you comparing the 2 sets of data to? When you say fcst, where are you getting those numbers from? So is data off in AS or FS?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
February 5, 200719 yr Author Hi Jim, ?????When I plan a trip I get the wind data from AS for each sector by entering a .PLN , print the NAV LOG and use the wind data for flight planning ( time and FF ). These are forecasts . . . .Then I load FS9, AS shows active, and these wind data in the PFD are for me actual winds ....IN the average the actual winds shown in FS9 - PFD are correct or at least close to the fcst winds from the nav log Karl-Heinz Wichmann - EDDI/THF "Tempelhof" "The mother of all airports" - Sir Norman Foster Now CLOSED - its a shame !

February 5, 200719 yr Hi,One thing that may help:Lower your Suppression Ceiling to a more reasonable number such as 10000. At 40000 you are not getting updated data into FS04 unless you are above 40K.Another thing I noticed: You want ASG to auto-submit textures, but you have no themes selected. With this, ASG is not submitting any environmental textures. Please keep us informed,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
