Hi, I'm a new user and don't yet have the big picture. I read that AS uses the flight plan to track the weather from waypoint to waypoint giving me the impression that AS downloads only the weather. But surely AS downloads world-wide weather, so why does it need a flight plan. You're all aware that no question is a stupid question, right?Geoff

Hi Geoff,as a new user, you should really take a few minutes to read the manual. In the section New Route and Navigation Log it tells you that using a flight plan is not required, but lists a half-dozen points of increased functionality if you do.CheersGeoff;)
