May 10, 200818 yr Moderator What makes this a problem is that it did NOT happen with 1106.Until installing RC1160 I have not installed any of the prior betas.Over a period of 10 different runs - Using AlacrityPC to start ASX with affinity set to ANY single core:time from "Saving weather to disk" to "download complete" - varies from :53 to :58time from "Parsing line items" to "7738 stations.." - varies from 1:52 to 3:47 secondsRunning ASX alone w/ all cores:SWTD->DC - 6 seconds on all runsPLI - 7738 - 10 seconds on all runsUsing ALacrityPC with all cores - the same 6/10 seconds.Using APC with any TWO cores - same 6/10 secs.Seems like 1160 doesn't like using just one core on loading. I have no results on running within FSX.Again, this behavior did NOT happen with build 1106 ( last release build).Thanx,VicQ6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.65Evga 680i A1 with P31 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx XG 174.74 702/1620/792Kandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-supporter-sigbanner.jpg RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 10, 200818 yr Commercial Member Hi Vic,If I understand what you are describing, when using special software to limit ASX to one core only, it takes an excessive amount of time to complete normal processes. Is this correct?ASX SP3 (vs SP2) does have at least 4 new threads running and some differences in process configuration for better performance, which may be related to this.I must ask out of curiosity, why are you forcing things to a single CPU and not letting the OS handle this?Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
May 10, 200818 yr Author Moderator Hi Damian - Yes, that is correct.Several months ago someone proposed a tweak to assign ASX or other add-on programs to a specific core to give FSX more CPU time on core 0. Mainly to reduce stutters when add-ons are prpcessing data. AlacrityPC shuts down non essential services and optionally starts additional programs (ASX) and you can specify any or all cores. No problems with 1106.Frankly, it's one of those tweaks that, lacking sophisticated timing programs, I would find hard to prove.HTH,VicQ6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.65Evga 680i A1 with P31 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx XG 174.74 702/1620/792Kandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-supporter-sigbanner.jpg RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 10, 200818 yr Commercial Member Hi Vic,Since ASX is multi-threaded to begin with I'm not so sure a tweak applied to ASX would help. It's already going to limit itself to a single/other cpu if the 'first' one is busy. I do find it strange that SP2 did not exhibit the same effect, but not completely surprised as there have been many tweaks on our end to provide as much FSX performance as possible amongst many configurations (single core, HT, dual core, etc.). Perhaps the dozens and dozens of individual threads running now (even more so with SP3), all trying to run on the proper CPU with the most available overhead (per OS) is causing the reduction when forced to a single CPU.Not really sure...Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
May 11, 200818 yr Author Moderator Hi Damian - Thanx for giving it some thought. My post was meant more as a FYI just in case that info might indicate some problem. I can't see any difference in FSX using all or a single core so it's not a biggie.Have a good evening!VicQ6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.65Evga 680i A1 with P31 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx XG 174.74 702/1620/792Kandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-supporter-sigbanner.jpg RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
