October 5, 200817 yr Up until yesterday I thought this was a hardware problem. Through a fluke I just realized that the freezing behavior does not occur when I forget to start active-sky.When this lock-up occurs the sound keeps playing (probably a loop) but the mouse, keyboard and display are frozen. The freeze lasts anywhere from a couple of minutes to ten minutes. Then the system just comes back to life right where I left off and runs for a time, maybe fifteen minutes before the freeze repeats. I'm not sure about the timing on these cycles, this is just a SWAG.How can I trouble-shoot/debug this for you? I'm running build 1160 of Active Sky X. I also have X Graphics build 298 installed, though I don't usually run it while flying.I believe I have the latest patch for the SDK but maybe you can tell me a way to verify the correct component version for SimConnect?
October 5, 200817 yr Hi,Are you using FSX in Full Screen Mode or Windowed Mode? You don't need the SDK unless you are using a network set-up.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
October 5, 200817 yr I'm using full-screen mode. I do plan to run Active Sky X on a 2nd computer once I've figured out what's going on (and how to do it). I'm also planning to run FlightSim Commander X and FSMap from Aerosoft on that 2nd machine, FYI. I am not currently running these other tools so they shouldn't be a factor in your analysis.Question: Are there any issues with using FSUIPC while using your products?

It usually locks (with continuing sound) after 30-45 minutes. As a matter of fact, I just started troubleshooting this last night. Was simming without ASX loaded for 1.5 hrs and no lockup. Not complaining, but wanted to report this just the same. Gordon Clarkson "Roger That"
October 6, 200817 yr Hi,Run in Windowed Mode with ASX and see if the lockups occur.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

October 7, 200817 yr I've similar lokups, although they appear to be random, but am running in Windowed Mode.RegardsRussell Jourdain (ANZ007/ZK-RHJ)

Windowed mode drops that number to 18-22...and introduces chugging. Hopefully, there is another solution on the horizon for this. Gordon Clarkson "Roger That"
October 7, 200817 yr Hi,The reason I ask is that for some, in general, even with no Add-ons installed, FSX will exhibit this behavior in Full Screen Mode. Most of the fixes involve updating the video drivers. Much has been posted about this in the General Forums. That is why I ask to try this, because it might not be ASX at all.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

That was the issue for me. I updated my 7900 GS with the newest 178.13 (from 169.XX - which have been pretty solid...until I installed ASX) and have flown with ASX running for over 3 hours straight...without a hang. Also, overall props to the newest driver as well...with injecting overall spunk into FSX (at least with my mid-range PC).Gordon Gordon Clarkson "Roger That"
October 18, 200817 yr I have ASX SP3 running in Windowed mode and I get hangs all the time!I gave up on ASX ages ago but last weekend I reformatted and rebuilt my flight sim machine. With a flourish of hope I loaded ASX but sadly I still get the hangs. With my system it happens on ASX startup. October 18, 200817 yr Hi,OK you have enough information posted here so I won't ask for a new thread to be started. What video drivers are you using? Is your on board sound chip disabled? At the point where your log stopped, is that when FSX crashed?Any error messages?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
October 18, 200817 yr Hi Jim, thanks for replying. Neither ASX or FSX report any errors but they remain hung indefinitely I just got back from leaving it running for an hour or so. FSX was still hanging but when I closed ActiveSkyX, FSX recovered within less than a minute. As for the video drivers, I'm using the latest ATI Radeon drivers for XP. I use both sound cards (on board and PCI) so that I can play FSX sounds throught surround speakers and talk to VATSIMM on headset - I've been doing that for years and it's pretty solid. The log I posted was taken from an earlier hung session but they always seem to stop right at that point. Mysterious!!Ian
October 19, 200817 yr Hi,Set ASX to use core 1 for affinity and see what happens. Thanks, Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
