Will FS2000 repaints of R4D work in FS 2002?

Featured Replies

So far I have had very little success in finding civilian (or other) repaints of the R4D for FS 2002. There are plenty of them available for FS2000 though. I am retired USAF and not too keen on being seen in a Navy aircraft :-eek :-bigangel

Hi Dave,That's true, and I think it's because the FS2002 bird is one you must pay for - even though it's only a $5 donation to the museum to register. To protect the museum's revenue, we have only allowed repaints that would require people to use the registered R4D (or put up with the 5 minute time-out). In other words, repainters are not allowed to post the plane itself - model, flight model, sounds, etc. - along with their textures. But relief is on the way. The new Gmax R4D which will be released at the AVSIM convention at MAAM on September 26 will bring a whole load of repaints. These will begin to be released as freeware very soon after the release of the CD. Jan already has several finished and more in the planning stages. Other repainters (not that Jan is just a repainter!) will be welcome, and even assisted, to produce others. Once again, the base R4D, either CD or paid-for download, will be required. Eventually, we may put out a CD compendium of all Jan's repaints and model modifications, such as different engines, doors and even float and ski plane versions. There will be NO trial version this time, though. Putting that out complete with panel etc. hindered Jan from doing subsequent models of the B-25 such as the solid-nose gunship H model as freeware add-ons to BT. Cheapskates would have been able to take the new model and apply the trial version's panels and flight model to have a free airplane. Since our major purpose is to support the museum's restoration programs, that would have been counter-productive. So, this time, people will have to rely on our reputation, reviews, and demo videos to make their decisions to buy, or not.Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM - Rambow, Visser, Banting, Young, Womack, and Hamblyhttp://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/maamsim_logo.gif

You beat me to it, Mike... I'll second your observation!:-sword Sir John

Well, I am satisfied with the current version (But I wish I hadn't bought the CD-it didn't simplify installation a bit). When the new one comes out I will certainly buy it based on the quality of the one I have now. Actually, the trial versions of both the R4D and The B-25 almost turned me off altogether. A trial version should be exactly like the final but with a reasonable time/number of flights limit.

Hi,Did you do a search with "Mark Beaumont" in the AVSIM library ? A lot of civilian DC3 paints for FS2002 by Mark Beaumont are appearing !hm

Bill, I noticed in the "repaint" reply that you are working on modifications (engines, etc) to the R4D. How about putting a "cold weather kit" on those radials with their short stacks that really show the exhaust fire/heat and sound like a P-51. In the '50s I flew with Reeve Aleutian and our gooneys had the cold weather kits. What a sound and what a sight at night. You would do the legendary Bob Reeve good to perhaps give a paint job of the RAA birds.Allen
