June 25, 200817 yr Hello,I downloaded and installed the Midway/Coral Sea scenery. Since these carriers do not have catapults, what is the takeoff procedure?I tried to set up wind at about 20knts and still cannot get into the air. I use brake and throttle up to full rpm. Still in the drink. I even tried pushback to the "wires" and still in the drink. What is this NEWBIE missing here? Thanks in advance,Ron Sagel
June 25, 200817 yr Hello,Since you have installed the Midway scenery do you have the dsd_arrester_zone.ini file for the carriers? If you do, would you mind posting them? Thanks in advance.
June 26, 200817 yr Commercial Member Ron, did you read and follow the instructions for carrier takeoffs in the User's Manual, Pilot's Handbook, or Kneeboard Reference Pages? I'm having no trouble launching off the Yorktown with a 24 knot headwind when using the proper procedure. I'm starting from just forward of the island, where the painted center-line starts, and using the TBF-1, which has 200 HP less than the TBM-3.A few key points: Trim the plane as called for in the checklist for short-field takeoff and use full flaps. Make sure you are developing full MAP and RPM, to the red-lines, before you release the brakes. Remember to force the tail up in the first part of the run. Do not over-rotate! Watch the VSI and keep your climb moderate and above all, do not start milking the flaps up until you have both airspeed and altitude. Follow the checklists and you can definitely do it.Treadhead, I provided a link to the dsd_arrester_zone.ini including all the Midway and Coral Sea Battle carriers on our Free Stuff page.
