March 7, 200422 yr Hi there,I have read on another hardware forum that the latest Nvidia drivers are not necessarily the best for older cards and that they might even reduce performance. any comments? If this is so, which is then the best driver for the Ti4200 128MB card?regardsPaul
March 8, 200422 yr Well I have found for me, that the 30.82's run the best, fastest performance as well as best image quality, I did try most the 40 series, and a couple of the 50's, and found them terribly slow.
March 8, 200422 yr I am using the 53.03, have not seen any degradation on any of the previous drivers the also used.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
March 10, 200422 yr Paul -I have tried several of the newer drivers, but I still find that I get the best overall performance for my Ti4200/64MB card with the 30.82s. (I have seen others with the Ti4200/128 card recommend some of the newer drivers, however).Steve J.P.S. I also use RivaTuner2.0 to overclock and tweak my card settings.
March 10, 200422 yr I have a 128MB card, and for me, having a lower end system, every frame counts, and 30.82's give's every frame.
March 10, 200422 yr I have found the new 56.55 to be good on my system. The 53.xx reduced performance when compared with the 52.16 and 45.23. However the 56.55 give a small fps increase.Fps usuually running at 30(locked)drops to 18-20 in high demand areas(LAX,LHR,SeaTac etc)- most settings at or near max.System is K7S5A/AMD XP2000/Ti4200-128mb/512MB ddram/WinXPDave
March 11, 200422 yr Hi,I will say this: The 30.82s are the BEST drivers I've ever had. Unfortunately, with directX9 installed, I only get CTDs with them. And this happens whether I'm using FS or another game.So now, I'm using the 44.03s. They are the next best thing to the 30.82s for my system. One thing to remember is that every system is different. What you should do is set up a specific situation in FS. (Maybe a video, or even just a cold and dark setup with a certain amount of AI and a specific weather situation). Save this situation and note the frame rates you get from different angles. Install another driver, then delete the Display.device.Nvidia....... section in your FS9.cfg (leave the section that you put in, just delete the section that's put there by FS) and restart FS, making sure that you start up the same situation again, and remembering to turn on the Trilinear filtering in the FS menu. Note the FPS again from the same angles.Do this for different drivers until you find the one that's best suited to your system. You should also download the latest version of Driver Cleaner to clean all the old drivers out when you uninstall them. (do a google search). Also, make sure that you set up your drivers in your "Display Properties" the same way each time. (Dont use 2xAA for one driver and 4xAA for the other....or 1024x768 for one driver and 1280x960 for the other). After much experimentation like this, the 44.03s gave me the best performance with FS (not the best with other games, but since I play mostly FS....). If it sounds like a lot of work, then it is. But once you do it a couple times, it becomes routine.
March 12, 200422 yr On my Ti4200-128 I get the best results with the 53.03 drivers.I used the 30.82 drivers for the longest time, but have now switched and am not going back.I fly FS9 at 1280x960 with 2XAA and 4XAF and with my card overclocked.Very smooth and great visuals... could not be happier.P4-2.8, 512 MB, WinXP Pro.
