Help! What kind of computer should I buy for MSFS 2004

I just called Dell up and told them I was thinking about cancelling, because there was nothing they could do about the graphics card. To make a long story short, I was able to get her to give me an extra $155 Off the system plus a total of $200 in rebates for a total of $355. I think I have enough now to buy that new PCI Express Radeon X800 graphics card when it comes out, if I'm not happy with the X300SE. :-hah

Dell is showing the X800XT and X300SE as being available for the Dell 8400 series and the XPS, which model did you order?------"Memory: The New Dimension 8400 offers DDR2 Memory that enables clock speeds up to 533MGz for the ultimate PC performance. Graphics: A full new lineup of PCI Express graphics cards for true to live video and games. The new line up features both the new ATITM RadeonTM X800 XT and new ATITM RadeonTM X300 SE."------http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/p...s=19&l=en&s=dhsKurt M

Kurt,I got the 8400 model. I checked out the XPS model also, but it didn't make sense. When I inputed the exact features on the XPS, it was, and I'm not kidding almost $700 more. I couldn't figure it out. The sales lady couldn't figure it out either. She said that it's probably because it has "Flashing Lights"? "Dell is showing the X800XT and X300SE as being available for the Dell 8400 series and the XPS, which model did you order?"I don't know why they are showing it as such, because when you click on this link to customize it, it only shows the X300SE as the option. Maybe they are planning on offering it. From my understanding, after talking to ATI yesterday, they said that there will be a new PCI X800 card coming out soon. Maybe Dell is just planning on offering it when it comes out. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/con...&s=dhs&kc=6V658Anyway, I will let you guys know what I think of it when I receive it.Costas

Hello Jim I have now installed most of my previous add-on sceneries (including Simflyers World Airports 1 & 2, boxed versions) and of course also again better AI-traffic (Ultimate traffic, some PAI packages).I am surprise how well my system still runs even at very detailed airports. Of course some of the Simflyers airports are the thoughest test for the system, but I can report the following:- on runways/taxiways I still have usually more that 25fps- very close to the terminals (with lots of traffic) the frames can go slightly below 20- some Simflyers airports are better than others (EDDF for example is tough, there I will change to German Airports 2 as soon as the new version is released)- on the very busy Simflyers airports (like KORD, KJFK, EDDF, KLAX, KDFW) I reduce AI-traffic to maybe 60-80% in order to get these frames, however, this is necessary anyhow, as FS9 cannot handle 100% AI-traffic very well at these airports and I still have a very good mix and quantity of traffic.- for many other addon-sceneries that are not so tough on frames (Expamples: German Airport series, Project ISD for Italy, Bangkok by M. Strong, Singapore forever, Spanish sceneries by Simwings) I can even go to 100% traffic and still have above 25 fps. What I also do is eliminate any static aircraft (if possible) that come with these sceneries as this helps also the performance and I prefer to have only AI-traffic.I have not yet "optimized" my AI-traffic (replacing AI-aircraft by the Aardvark models, whenever possible) which will give back some performance as these planes are really good for the fps.Overall I am still extremly happy with my system. One highlight is also running it under VFR-conditions (I have a optimized fs9.cfg- and separate scenery.cfg file for this) that I use only when I run my Switzerland Professional Scenery for VFR-flying. Walter

If you want to by that dell, I would definitely go for a better videocard. The FX5200 is a low-end card and doesn't make sense to stick that into an highend-computer.Get at least a Geforce FX5900XT or a radeon 9600XT (note that xt=higher performance for radeon cards and less in case of nvidia).cheers,Claudio:-beerchug
