July 22, 200421 yr Hi - Usually I'd ask in the hardware forum but answers seem to come very slowly there...Anyway, I currently am running a Dell Dimension XPS T500 (PIII 500) which has been upgraded to a 1.2Ghz processor, 384 ram, and the vid card is a Diamond Viper 770 Ultra 32.Basically, I'd like to upgrade the ram and video card; I know how to do the ram, but I need suggestions for a video card which will run 2k2 better and also allow me to run 2k4 reasonably well.Honestly I'm not even sure what type of card I can use in that thing.. AGP? I dunno.I haven't looked at cards in a long time so I'm pretty out of step with them.Any advice appreciated!CheersAndrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
July 22, 200421 yr You do not mention the operating system. You can go on Dell's site to get mobo info to find out what slots you have video and if AGC what speed. You will need to find out what AGP standard your mobo supports as many newer cards require AGP 2 slots and will not run on AGP 1 3.0 volt slots.Guides to video are available a www.tomshardware.com and www.guru3d.com. Try http://www.diamondmm.com/ for info about your current card. Diamond cards use ATI chips.FS2K2 will probably run on your current system and I think FSCOF would not give you good results. I moved from a 550 CPU to 2.53 on a new mobo under W98 to run COF. FS COF demands a good CPU speed as that contributes greatly to video performance, and depending on your current video card specs, you may not see much of an improvement by just upgrading the video card.
July 22, 200421 yr Author "FS2K2 will probably run on your current system"Oops... Win98SE. And it runs pretty well on my current system.Thanks for the info. I guess the fact that my system runs 2002 better than 2000 doesn't necessarily mean it will run 2k4 as well as 2k2...Mind if ask the route you went with your new hardware?Thanks,Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
