August 18, 200421 yr Just purchased XP and after 5th reinstall am still stuck.A combination of XP being completely rubbish on security and BTInternet ditto ... means I'm coming to the end of my tether trying to get XP up and running without viruses (they get sent before I even open IE or can install the latest security updates ... )SOWho has any opinion? I can revert to 98SE very happily - I know it well. Or do I persist and try to get XP running (oh god) without all the ********* crap security BUT with an extra 512mB of RAM?Current specAthlon 3000+512mbWindows SEnVidia 570098SE or XP?

August 19, 200421 yr First, unhook your network cable before installing. Once you install, turn on the firewall on the NIC. Then plug in the cable. This will keep the virii out. Then go straight to Windows Update and start downloading the patches, etc.IMHO, stay with XP.If you think XP has bad security, wait until you install 98....Once you get all the patches you will be fine, and even more so after you install Service Pack 2.
