October 30, 200421 yr It sounds like a tv will not display as many pixels as an actual monitor would., thanks for putting me straight on that.Cheers.,Dan :-)
October 30, 200421 yr Yes I know but everyone knows what 16x9 looks like :). And I think the new digital movie theaters uses 16x9 not sure though
October 31, 200421 yr Hi Alex!never thought of such monitors before for an FS setup. I used to think more about Video Projectors. The price/size ratio though is really interesting!!Xmas is coming fast....now you have to show us some pics of your setup :-)
October 31, 200421 yr WOW, a 24 inch monitor. That is incredible. What does a 24" monitor cost?JimCYWG
October 31, 200421 yr Excellent man. I plan to pay $500. for my next graphics card. Thanks for the info.JimCYWG
October 31, 200421 yr I'm using a 21 inch CRT here. I've often considered trying it on a large 30+ inch TV, although the resolution on the TV is probably way too low. I still wonder what it would look like.. Probably too grainy I guess unless you ran the sim in a low res...MK Mark Keith
October 31, 200421 yr Jean-Luc,nice to meet you again.I have experimented with projectors but never really liked them. The picture is absolute crap unless you are willing to pay thousands of dollars for them. The limitations in res and contrast are showstoppers IMHO. Of course you can create a perfect setup with them but the price tag is prohibitive, and a used one with some crappy 800x600 foggy picture is surely not an acceptable solution.Since you asked for it here are two pics of my current setup. Please forgive me for the terrible quality. The pics were made with my mobile phone's camera. Since all my money is in the sim I cannot afford a decent DigiCam :-).Alexhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96073.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96074.jpg
November 1, 200421 yr Hi Alex. Congrats on your new monitor. You say that 2d cockpits are rendered strangely. Does this go for all resolutions or just the top resolutions?
November 1, 200421 yr Dane, they are not rendered strangely. They are simply stretched. As the bitmaps for the panel usually have a 1024x768 bmp as a source it is gets strechted when you have it fullscreen on 16/10 screen. There is no mistake. The simple fact is that the designers of the panel did them to fit a 4:3 screen. As some panels have a pilots view and a copilot's view it would be interesting to merge them with panel studio. But for now I am perfectly satisfied with the VC as I have all my instruments on additional monitors anyway (see pic above).Alex
November 1, 200421 yr Ok I see. Your setup looks really cool. I would really love to buy one myself. But if for instance you want to play LOMAC (no VC I believe) well then from would I understand the view would be strechted. Is this right?BTW the two links you provided show different screens. One is a W900/24H96/P1610 and the other a SGI GDM-90W11 24.Which one do you use and is there any real difference between the two models. Felix
November 1, 200421 yr Dane,no, Sony is doing this one for SGI. There is no difference. Actually I have the Silicon Graphics one. Regarding your question: For games that have a 2D view, you can still set up a standard 4:3 resolution and not stretch the screen. In this case you well have a black frame on each side like you would have during a 4:3 transmission on a 16/9 TV. But since this machine is FS9 only I don't even bother.Alex
November 2, 200421 yr Ok Alex I see. Sorry to be bothering you with all these questions. So if you were to play lets say a game like Vice city(GTA) would you also have the black frames on each side?Felix
