X800pro or 6800GT OC

Featured Replies

I want to buy a new video card a friend of mine has already 6800gt OC and I notice water looks pretty bad the reflection is there but the texture looks bad also he gets jagged edges on the wings on taxiways, building, ect.His settings are 4aa, af16 all maxed out except autogen to normal. All I want to know does this also happens to x800 pro? TIA :-wave

You shouldn't get jaggies when using 4x AA, either with a Geforce or Radeon. As for water reflections - that could depend on the texture-set installed - default looks quite bland - some addons look a little better.Image quality between Geforce and Radeon is quite similar these days. Performance-wise, the X800 Pro is slightly slower than the 6800GT because it only has 12 active pixel pipelines vs 16 for the 6800GT (and X800XT).

I'm sorry is more like some of the lines on top of the wing arround the windows of the planes and on the texture in front of the building from a slight distance. At close up it looks fine.

Jaggies you will get anyway depending on the size of your monitor. I get jaggies at 1600x1200 with 4x aa on my 20" visible. Though I am quite fine with 1280x960 at 4x aa once I get used to it. Still is to much to all forget though.I have noticed that my 6800 ULTRA is slightly less efficient in term of antialiasing than my older 9800 PRO so I think you would see some improvement with a X800 PRO in that area. It uses more or less the same technique as the 9800 PRO from what I have heard. There is 8xSA AA too but that have a severr performance hit. He can

6800GT may be a bit faster but water reflections and AA looks better with X800 Pro (my opinion).Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2
