December 8, 200421 yr Hello guys, Just interested in what type of performance you get with your notebook in flight sim? Here is my new baby in action with Flight 1's 172http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/99983.jpgDell 8600c (15.4 WXGA 1280x800)Celeron M @ 1.5 GIG512 333 DDR60 hdati 9600 TURBO PRO 128 megsWin XP HomeBest Wishes,[h4]Randy J. December 8, 200421 yr If you want excellent performance then you need the same as in a desk top.I have an Alienware 51M with 1 giga ram P4 3,4 HT 2X60 gigas HDrives.I got my FPS fixed on 25 and never go below 15 even with heavier scenery or an aircraft with too many details or eye candy, or poor panel design. My only mistake is having Chosen a series 6000 7000 ATI rather than the well known one... N VIDIAI think ATI needs to issue a new driver this one (model 8.05) once in a while gets stuck in a thread. One advantage is that you can use another laptop for a second view without having 2 cards. Its been two years since I left the world of Desk Top PC'sEdmundo CardenasSVMI
December 8, 200421 yr Author Well I am geting suprisingly good performance out of my whimpy Celeron M, actually shocked me when I loaded it up. I am glad I opted for the ATI card as the other two options from Dell were not up to playing fs much less any game. FPS above with add-on scenery and add-on aircraft in VC, I would say 95% full right in game options @ 77 FPS is not to bad don't you think?Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. December 8, 200421 yr Well Randy, I have just purchased a laptop, with a Centrino 1.5Ghz, 512mb RAM, and a ATI 9700M graphics card, all for the bargain price of
December 8, 200421 yr I just bought a Toshiba 1.6 Centrino Satellite A55 which has 512 of ram but plan on adding another 512 today. The main problem with it is has onboard sound and a Intel graphics card.I am getting frame rates of 18.7 with PSS Concorde so its not doing to bad.I just need to find a small joystick to take on out of town trips. December 8, 200421 yr Ran FS2004 on a 1.6 GHz Pentium-M notebook with 512MB RAM and Radeon 9600 64MB graphics for a couple of weeks. It was actually quite OK. Slowed down to 10 FPS over some cities (Seattle) but was otherwise quite smooth. The ATI mobile chips are quite impressive but to really get good performance you need a 2+ GHz CPU. -
January 2, 200521 yr As I travel abroad a lot, and for long periods, buying a new PC doesn't make much sense (especially as I go to areas prone to daily power cuts!), I am considering a laptop. This thread is very timely! I have quite a few add-ons to my FS9.1 setup - Ultimate Traffic, FSGenesis Terrain Mesh, Aerosoft Manhattan scenery, Visual Flight London scenery etc. etc. - some of which take a dreadful fps toll on my desktop. I was thinking of an Alienware 51m 7700, with Pentium 3.6GHz CPU, 1GB PC4200 DDR RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 256MB graphics ... In theory FS9 should 'fly' on this, but the practice is often rather different from what the theory would lead one to believe of course. Any comments? Thanks,Martin S. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
January 2, 200521 yr I would say that the above spec is overkill, my little 1.6 centrino with fly a vanilla install of 2004, with most settings maxed, at 50-60fps.Mesh scenery "shouldnt" have to much effect, but stuff like Manhattan and the London scenery will bring ANY system to its knees.Dan.
