XP COMPRESS OLD FILES

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me the purpose of this facility? After 2 years, I've just cleaned these files off my hard disk and retrieved 2GB of space. As it does seem to save disk space what does it do?

It claims to compress old files, ie those that haven't been used for a specified time. I don't think it is anything to do with normal file compression. However, Disk Cleanup lists them as files that can be removed to give more disk space! As I said, I did this and got 2Gb back, but Disk Cleanup still shows Compress Old Files using 2Gb and its set to compress files that haven't been used for 60 days.I'm still puzzled.
