March 20, 200521 yr you need to turn of Messenger popups (or something like that), it is installed by default and is for use in/on private networks, but appently this utility has been hi-jacked by spammer types. I think you an do it from task manager, this is something that as done when first installing XP which in my case was a few years ago so i forget how to turn it off, but it is faily common knowledge so it should not be to hard to find out.
March 20, 200521 yr Bruce is correct Chase, turn off the Messenger service.Go to Contol Panel->Administrative tools->ServicesLocate the Messenger service, right click it and go to properites. If the service is running stop it and then set the Startup Type to 'Disabled'.HTHBTW There a many other services that do not need to be running, there are many web sites with details of which services you can turn off or set to manual startup.http://www.blkviper.com/index.htmlhttp://www.tipsdr.com/http://www.onecomputerguy.com/windowsxp_tips.htmhttp://www.xptuneup.com/
