May 20, 200521 yr Author Sorry, I forgot the finish pics. You can see the extra wires from the front panel I chose not to include. I still need to finish those off with electrical tape. (scotch tape right now, no power to them anyway) If you look close you can also see the blue and orange on the connector on the board.I like this compaq case since it is so open near the place the fans are, and the board can have good airflow. Luckily compaq chose a case so that I could add a fan, which I did with the lighted fan. (my 14 year old likes the colors) :-)Regards,JoePS - These are the only Compaq Parts I still have on it:CasePower Button and Lead wires.Front USB 2 Port cardFloppy DriveThat's it. :-)..http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117199.jpgGrab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a] CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
May 20, 200521 yr Author Hi Greg,I read that part when researching the NTLDR and chose the other route because I wasn't convinced it would work in my case.I forgot to mention that I was running XP Hardware Profiles as well, as referenced by Black Viper's site, which I started depending on whether I wad doing my bus apps, gaming, etc....I only suspect it may have been a problem, as not too many even know how to enable Hardware profiles in XP. (I suspect many use Ken's FSAutostart). I prefer the hardware profiles. For now, I don't think I'll be doing hardware profiles just yet, but I'll keep that tip in mind on my next rig. I also wrote down quite a few things, and that is also why I took the pics, in case I run across it somewhere down the line.Hopefully this will help others too. I had not had to use or heard of the XP repair and recovery console, until I read about the NTLDR errors.I definately learned quite a bit. of course the stress came when putting on the CPU and heatsink, pulling the lever, but that part was easy, just line it up correctly and went right in, levered down, and used the handy AMD Screwdriver slot I read about beforehand. Heatsink sits right on the 4 rubber pads as designed. :-)Thanks Again,JoeGrab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a] CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
May 20, 200521 yr Author "cool report back, tell us how FS2004 is."Hi Clayton,All in all, I am very satisfied with the results. I didn't have to reinstall FS since it was on the large drive anyway. Here is a pic with aircraft, water, clouds, terrain, etc... getting 52 here.I used to run Hardware Profiles, and am quite sure I can get higher if I do so, but don't feel a need to. I may set up One Hardware Profile, and max performance, but this is pretty darn good.Take care,Joehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117200.jpgGrab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a] CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
May 20, 200521 yr Author >why not upgrade to AMD 64?? I bought a new DFI mobo and AMD>64 3000+ for under 300 bucks and that 450 wat PSU you would be>fine with the AMD 64. i purchased a 450 watt PSU as well my>total was just over 300 bucks.>>on a sidenote..how do you know exactly what a new MOBO>requires in regard to PSU??Hi saywhuut,Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.I wanted to keep as much as my current stuff as possible and was worried about drivers, ATX case stuff, MOBO fitting, PSU connector fitting (20 vs 24), etc..... Which is why I didn't buy a 64.So I got just about the highest Socket A I could. As Far as PSU Goes, it really depends on much and what your running on each rail. The Rails are:3.3v5v12v-12v-5vAnd +5v Sb (Stand by)Each one allows a certain amount of amperage and it is a balance act based upon which peripherals you are running. For example my MOBO won't run certain AGP Vid cards, but will take an AGP Pro card.Usually many vid cards not running on older boards can be explained by not enough Power from the PSU between the board and the card. There are some articles on some of the hardware sites that can better explain it than I can, but my suggestion is this. Find a forum specific to your mobo, and search out threads on PSU. The main consideration after Watts is which connector does your Mobo have and will the PSU Power it, and your devices given the amperage required.Hope this helps,JoeGrab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a] CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
