Moving FS to a new harddrive

Featured Replies

If I want to move FS to a new harddrive do I have uninstall and reinstall everything? In addition to FS9 I have a lot of addons. Is it not possible to just copy the files in some instances?

Just rename your current FS9 folder to something different, leave it installed for the time being. Then install a new FS9 from your CD's to the HD you want it on. Then copy the old installation that is in the folder that you renamed overtop of your new installation. answer "yes to all" to ovewrite. Then once you are sure all is well you can delete your old installation. Bill

Not sure what to tell you about add ons. I have FSGenesis, and MAAM B25 for payware, and a hockey sock full of freeware and everything worked for me when I moved FS9 using this method. I can't be sure of this, and am only guessing, but I think the only program that makes resistry entries is the base FS9 installation.

So does Flight 1 and DreamFleet, I think. Also, you have to maike sure any `offshore` files (those stored away from the main FS folder) are correctly flagged to the new file location. Scenery .cfg might need to manually altered, but thats' the only thing I can think of. Allcott
