June 8, 200520 yr hi all, this might not be the right forum. i couldn't find a better one though...can anybody tell me if it's worth it buying dual channel ram over "regular" ram when assembling a new system with all other components being unaltered? (i plan on an amd 64 3000+ with 1 gb ram and maybe a geforce 6200 256mb)my question is if i could expect to notice a difference in fps (especially with the pmdg 737) when running fs9 with dual channel ram instead of single channel ram.i really want to avoid spending extra money on things that won't let me actully see a difference in performance.thanks for the input!regards Denis Kosbeck KPHX
June 8, 200520 yr Actualy it depends on your motherboards chipset. Some support dual channel, some do not.If your mobo/chipset does than your better off with two sticks of memory. If you can aford 1 gig total you would purchase a matched pair of 2x512Mb. Then insert 1 in each chanel. One has to be a bit carefull!Example: MSI fsr2 w/VIA KT-890 is single channel. I wanted to use 1 gig total memory. It has 3 slots. I purchased 2x512 Corsair TwinX 3200 (400 Mhz) modules and installed them into slot1 and slot3. I could have used 1 module of 1 gig, why not? Simple, at some point I will upgrade from socket 754 to 939 AND a mobo/chipset with dual channel. This way I can use my memory in both. BTW, had I inserted the modules into slot1 & 2 the memory would only run at 333Mhz, as I said "One has to be a bit carefull", do diligence and a little research goes a long way.I get very good frame rates with what I have. My setup is reletivly cheap now, time passes.Notice that single channel boards mostly have 3 memory slots, dual 4.Best

They just have to be of the same type. A matchedpair is more carefully tested but a pair of ordinary same type is unlikely to not work with dual channel.
