July 20, 200520 yr I have been reading about updating drivers for Bios and changing the information in the Bios. I am really considering doing this to try and pick up some performance in my computer. I am currently running a Gig of memory, ATI 9800 128mb video card, I am not sure what my processor is or the name of the mother board, sound blaster audigy sound card. That is about the most I can tell you. I usually clean up all my old files and defrag the hard drive about every two weeks. I don't think my computer is by any means top of the line, but I do not think it is a slouch either. Long story short if I start messing with the bios and locating drivers for my chipset, how much damage can I do? Is any of it reversable? I would be intersted in getting a beginners crash course in bios tweaking. Or if you think it is a waste of time, please let me know.Thank you all for the information.:DKevin
July 20, 200520 yr "I am not sure what my processor is or the name of the mother board, sound blaster audigy sound card. That is about the most I can tell you" Hi Kevin; Given the above statement I do believe I'd leave it alone until youamass quite a bit more info, and computer savvy. Now I'm not sayingthis to be derogatory, but I believe you'd be in WAY over your head."if I start messing with the bios and locating drivers for my chipset, how much damage can I do?" Plenty!"Is any of it reversable?" Yes most of it would be, IF YOU KNOW HOW, but it depends on the Mobo and is a lot harder to accomplish than it is to screw it up to start with." I would be intersted in getting a beginners crash course in bios tweaking." The first thing you need to know is what Mobo,Processor,Chipset youhave so I'd download and install "SISoft Sandra" or similar utility. This will give you the basic info you need. Once you have that thereis an vast amount of info available. If you get ahead of yourself on this you will probably not be pleased with the results ie; A computer that won't boot, AKA an impressive paper weight. After getting all the info you may find that you have the latestBios revision ect, but just take it slow and learn enough FIRST soyou don't have to try to recover a trashed Bios. Take care and let us know how you're progressing. Greetings from Rochester NY :-wave Denny Denny Retired Professional Tourist
July 20, 200520 yr Author Thanks for the tips. I have a lot of learning left to do it sounds like. When it comes to updating drivers to my video card, and other items like that, I have no problem. When it comes to bios and items like that, I am at a loss. Probably because it is something that I am not able to interface with, like installing drivers, etc.The reason I am looking into adjusting the bios is because for some reason I feel I should be getting more out of my computer than I currently am. Although, maybe my computer is doing the best it can with what it has to work with.Oh well, thanks for the help. I will let you know how I progress, once I do some more research.:DKevin

Then maybe someone can help you figure it all out with step by step instructions.
