Considering a DELL 24" lcd. Do you sim in widescreen? If so...

Featured Replies

I recently used my father's 24" Dell LCD that he uses for CAD stuff. Simming is absolutley amzing looking on it. I only fly from the VC, but as far as I could tell I could get used to the small amount of stretching (I normally sim on a 17" laptop widescreen, so I'm used to the stretching). Your rig would definately be able to run it at those resolutions. If I had the dough I would buy one for my sim.

Greetings Jon :-)Although I had a previous bad experience with a DELL desktop, I purchased the 24" LCD based on good reviews I read. It was a good decision, the monitor is very good quality and the extra width makes a huge difference. Like you I use the VC mostly, so I can accept a slightly stretched 2d view. Also there is little impact on frames at higher resolutions using my 7800gtx (not sure about your card). My recommendation however would be: Buy Now!John.

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I don't own one, but there is a thread about it in the Hardware section. The sugestion for the stretching was to resise the panel to the left by dragging it with your mouse so it isn't stretched, and use the space left over for your radio panel or whatever- which is also resizable. There is no stretching issue in the VC.My suggestion: Unless it's a "gift", buy after Christmas- from Dell Clearance!Best Regards, Donny:-wave

Thanks guys, you pretty much confirmed what I thought, the screen is worth it! As far as clearance sales are concerned, I

There is absolutely nothing negative about the 24" Dell widescreen monitor.I don't know why you have to live with a slightly stretched 2d Guages. You don't have to. Just resize the 2D guages to and place your Radio stack or GPS or whatever else to the right side with the reclaimed real estate and save it.Next time when you load it... it will all be right.

Hi Jon!I just installed my Dell 2405 last night. I have to say, it's more astonishing than I even expected. There is more of a sense of "being there" than what I had with my 17 CRT, almost to the point of not wanting to look for fear of falling when flying. Really...The 2d panel stretch? I fly a lot in VC mode but I didn't find the 2d panel stretch issue to be an issue. I have my resolution set at 1920 x 1200 which is the recommeded for this panel. Make sure to set this resolution in FS9 as well. The 2d issue is really a win/win situation in my opinion. I can fly with the panel slightly stretched or grab it, shrink it a little, and add another view or instrument to the "bare" area, i.e., the radio stack. This 2d issue is not an issue in my book. You will find the overall visual experience to be breathtaking -- web browsing...everything in addition to FS9. Go for it.Ed Lin, D.O.S.

hi that sounds like a really good panel, do you think my system will be capable of using the screen at 1920 x 1200 with approriate frame rates on the 737 PMDG?

hi alive been reading on the toms hardware article and he stated"Video noise while watching DVDs is strongly evident. This is a shame, because the format of the screen would be perfect for this application. Forget it, though - there is definitely too much video noise and, in addition, viewing angles aren't suitable. Games are clearly not this monitor's strength, either; it's too slow, and the monitor displays annoying lags. Worst of all, moving images lose sharpness in their textures. Conclusion If business is going well and your boss really likes you, demand a Dell 2405 FPW for your CAD/CAM work. It really is a pleasure to use day-to-day, and its resolution is unequaled for comfortable viewing. "obviously he doesnt think his monitor is good for gaming?http://graphics.tomshardware.com/display/2...nal_lcd-10.html

Clayton,I have no clue what other games will look like on this monitor. On rare occasion, I might reinstall and play one of my old Star Trek games. Otherwise, I'm doing flight simulator. FS is not typical of games like Far Cry, Doom, etc., so I don't know if a hardcore simmer might have issues with these games. I just know that for me, and other posts I've read on the forums regarding FS9 performance, people are overwhelmingly happy and satisfied with this monitor.I read that review over at Tom's several weeks ago too. I haven't watched a video on the monitor yet. But then, I haven't watched a movie on my computer in at least 6 months anyway.Again, I think this monitor with FS9 is a hands down addition that I could never fly again without. :)Ed Lin, D.O.S.

I have red the review on Tom's Hardware before I bought the screen. It is not consistent with any of the other reviews I've red and my personal experiences with watching movies and playing fast games (BF2) are very positive.Cheers,Alex
