Any way to make a particular controller "default" for FS9?

Featured Replies

I have a CH joystick, and a CH Yoke. Problem is, FS defaults to the joystick, necessitating a visit to controller assignments prior to each new FS session. Any way to change this to make my yoke default, besides deleting the joystick? I tried changing controller ID position in Win control pnl game controllers applet, but to no avail.Any help much appreciated.Noel

I load FS9 via *.bat files and use multiple configurations (fs9.cfg files). I have several configurations defining the yoke for various arrangements of the three levers (throttle, prop, mixture; trottle, mixture, flaps; spoiler, throttle1, throttle2; etc.) and one which defines a joystick for helos. I have not tryed to use both yoke and stick in one configuration. I hope that this helps. R-

Well, this is one of this issues. I'm not seeing any references to even one joystick other than this:[JOYSTICK_MAIN {E1F07FF0-7DC3-11D9-8002-444553540000}]When I search for this character set: E1F07FF0-7DC3-11D9-8002-444553540000, in RegEdit, it is not there. So, I see no way to use a batch file since it always resets to the first game device in line (looks like alphabetically). Thanks for your reply Ron.Noel

Oops:JOYSTICK_MAIN {E1F07FF0-7DC3-11D9-8002-444553540000}This is the only identifier (?) that may be what this boot of Windows assigns to USB CH Fighterstick. In other words, there does not appear to be a way to set only one USB controller in FS9. When I start FS9, under Controller Assignments, I can select either Fighterstick or Yoke. Problem is, I see no way to eliminate Fighterstick, and it is Fighterstick that it always defaults to. No biggy, just didn't want to have to re-point to the Yoke for every session of FS9.**didn't show first time because I left the brackets in.Noel

Hi Noel,Just go into the Controls Assignment dialog in Flight Sim and unassign everything that's assigned to the FighterStick. FS should be seeing bot the FighterStick and the Yoke and responding to whichever moved last, if you unassign the FighterStick, it will only respond to the Yoke.Hope this helps!Best regards,- BobThe StickWorkshttp://www.stickworks.com

Thanks Bob,I unassigned absolutely everything from the CH Fighterstick: all joystick and all keyboard entries in NORMAL and SLEW modes, and also in JOYSTICK AXIS tab. Is this what you were suggesting? No luck for some reason. Everytime I restart FS9, it shows CH Fighterstick at the top of the list of two available controllers, so I have to select CH Yoke. Only thing now is that there is nothing assigned to CH Figherstick (which is ok fine).Noel

Hi Noel,There's no way to get rid of it entirely, but FS will support as many as 16 joysticks so there's really no need. If I'm understanding what you're trying to do, unassigning everything from the FighterStick should do the trick. The stick is there, it just has no function, and with all the functions assigned to the yoke it should be the only one that FS responds to. Does that not accomplish what you want?Best regards,- BobThe StickWorkshttp://www.stickworks.com

Thank you Bob, you were right on and I missed the subtlety. Having deleted all JS references to the fighterstick, now when I start FS the yoke indeed is the controller and works as it should. I was fooled by the fact that when you go to controller assignments, it still shows the Fighterstick as the default controller, though unassigned. Since I start up FS9 an average of 1.5x/day, and since this reassigning to Yoke took roughly 10 seconds per event, you have saved me roughly an hour & a half of precious life per year. Don't know why I did that! Thanks again Bob,Noel
