January 10, 200620 yr Hi,I am thinking of purchasing a new PC. I was going to wait until later this year, but my harddrive is starting to go out (almost 3 yrs old). What I am thinking about is something that will last me a few years and will be more than FSX Ready.....I am looking at a Alienware brand...with AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 with 2 gigs of ram and a dual 512mb PCI-Express x16 Geforce 7800 GTX - SLI Enabled.....It seems everything else is secondary....Does anyone have one? Does anyone have any advice about this? I value your opinion! Thanks in advance!Paul
January 10, 200620 yr I think that setup will last you a few years. Let's hope so...Alienware makes fast stuff, if you are into "pre-made" systems. They are also expensive as I'm sure you know, and part of that expense is the "Alienware" cachet (i.e. you are to some extent, paying for their name). Keep that in mind. An FX-57 cpu is very expensive right now, on the order of $1,000 for the boxed retail cpu--but if you want top-end single-core cpu, that would be it right now. That is until the FX60 comes out...I just ordered a 7800GT gfx card myself. Almost as fast as a GTX but about $200 cheaper. It all depends on how much you want to spend. As you can guess from my post, I believe in buying just behind the curve, where you get 90% of the performance of the top-end but at about half the price. But each person has their own priorities and system-building style. Good luck building yours... Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
