January 27, 200620 yr My flight simulator has constantly been crashing to desktop and this modult (g2d.dll) was the cause each and every time!I have googled this dll in google and read every post on every forum related to this dll for FS2004 including here and in flightsim.com forums and other places as well (i.e. microsofts FS2004 site) but none off them have a definete way to solve them and all the posts were fairly outdated!Does ANYONE have a solution to this problem?? The crash occurs soon after take-off.1.I have read that it could be due to video drivers, so I updated to the lated v81.98 nVidia Drivers (using GeForce Fx 5600 256mb)2.I have also read that overclocking should be off, it is, but it still crashes due to this dll.3.Also, could be due to sound card drivers, updated them.. but still crashes (using Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI... yes i know they are aincient but they work so i see no need to replace them!)4.Also read that it could be due to video shaders or buffering (or something to that affect) in the BIOS that needs to be turned off but my BIOS does not have these options!! (I use Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Pro-G and updated to the latest Bios vF5)5.Heard that it could be due to DirectX and have re-installed mine (using v9.0c) but stull does not solve the problem.6.I have also COMPLETELY removed my FlightSim and all its add-ons, etc, used a REgistry Cleaner to remove anything left behind in the registry and then re-installed FS2004, the patch, and all the add-ons in that order but it still does not solve the problem!!Please could someone help me out!! I have just short of giving up on FS2004 altogether and that I do NOT want to do being a beloved FS enthusiast but with this annoying problem I dont think I have a choice!!Any help would be appriciated!!!
January 29, 200620 yr Unfortunately, an error report citing any module in Windows isn't all that useful, (or telling). But the first thing you should try in troubleshooting the problem is eliminate the possibilty of video card overheating. Easy to do (and cheap), simply remove the left side cover of your computer case and stick a small house fan in the side blowing air into the VC area. Then go fly. If you then get a crash citing the g2d.dll you have other problems.Good luck and post back with your test results,Greg
January 29, 200620 yr I have tried what you suggested even after keeping the PC off all day and then turning it on to do a test flight.... Unfortunetly it still gave me the same error...Any other suggestions??
January 29, 200620 yr Do you have any way to monitor system temps? Most BIOS's have a section for just such a thing. Though often inaccurate, they can sometimes lead one to elevated temps for the CPU.Do you have access to another video card (for testing only)? Borrow one from a friend? It would be good if you could isolate the VC from the troubleshooting process.Standing by,Greg
January 29, 200620 yr Unfortunetly i don't really have a spare video card... Does a ATI 7000 count?? I am not even sure it will load FS2004 with that but I will give it a try anyway ! I am desperate to solve the problem!!Thanks for all you help so far though!!
January 29, 200620 yr Well, the ATI 7000 would be better than nothing. Be sure to use Drivercleaner Pro to scrub the nVidia video drivers away from your system. Follow the Readme and it will do a great job. Try the 7000 (you can use the latest Omega ATI drivrs... they come with ATI Tray Tools that you can use to configure the drivers (as best as possible)). Simple, quick install for your testing. Try the sim with the ATI card and post back.Greg
January 29, 200620 yr Unfortunetly I have now run into another problem.... The ATI Omega drivers fail to recognise that there is an ATI card installed and gets stuck on the driver installation so I can't even test FS2004 with the ATI card! :( *sigh* This is fustrating!P.S. I did use driver cleaner (properly of course) and then tried to install ATI drivers but it just refuses to work!
January 29, 200620 yr That's very telling in itself, because Omega clearly states on his page that the drivrs will work with the 7X00 series cards. Now we're making some headway.I recommend next that you reinstall DirectX 9.0c and then follow that with the a fresh install of the chipset drivers for your motherboard. Reboot between each of these. There is a possibility that your MB will not support the 7X00 card, but I doubt it.Greg
January 29, 200620 yr Ok will do! BTW as for the motherboard drivers I already the latest available including all drivers related to the motherboard as well as the latest BIOS...
January 30, 200620 yr Well after re-installing DirectX (then restarting) and trying out a flight.. It seemed go work!Unfortunetly after about 1/2 hour into the flight it crashed and the whole "Fatal Error Orccured" message poped up.... This time however, it says "unknown" under mod name!!!! (ModVer: 0.0.0.0 , Offset: 1f9aad60)... At least it did not come up with the the G2D.dll crash.... :DAny ideas on this one??I will give another flight (with excate same settings that I using when I got the G2D.dll crash error) a go just to see if it comes up with this again...
January 30, 200620 yr Did you reinstall the chipset drivers as well? Did you get the Omega drivers to install for the 7000? Have you checked the temps in the BIOS?Greg
January 30, 200620 yr Yes I did re-install the chipset drivers (they were already the latest for my motherboard but did a re-install anyway)I actually have not tried to re-test the Omega driver installayion (next on my things to try!!)The temperatures in my BIOS (i.e. CPU temp, all checks out and is operating within the normal specifications... i.e. 48C after heavy processing like gaming for a long time :( )But it seems I am back to square one as I got the G2D.dll error again after trying out my flight again (to see if the "unknown" error would come up again)I have also tried changing sound cards (don't know why but I thought it might help) from a Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI (yes I know it's aincient) to a Mercury KOB C880 (to a slightly less older one :D )but it seems to have made no difference!
January 31, 200620 yr Did a bit of research on this and found this: http://forums.simradar.com/g2d.dll_error_-...ash_P93350.htmlThe fact that you can't even install those Omega drivers leads me to believe somehting is really whacked on your system. Have you tried reinstalling the g2d.dll over the existing version (realy reaching here). The module is on disc #2 (probably somewhere there related to "Modules").Scratches head,Greg
January 31, 200620 yr Yea I have already seen that solution form microsoft's FS2004 site...Unfortunetly I am pretty sure my BIOS does not have those options as I have looked sveral times and could not find those options!I have already tried to move the module over from my FS2004 disc but as a result it overwrote a newer module (as I had applied the v9.1 patch) and could not update that module since the update says that FS2004 is already updated (and it was, expect for that module)... This caused to do a complete re-install which took serveral days to do... (had to re-install all my addons, etc)So is it safe to run FS2004 with the g2d.dll being the old version (if I replace it with the opriginal module from FS2004 disc)?? I just want to make sure that I won't have to re-install FS2004 all over again!
