March 15, 200620 yr What an utterly BRILLIANT solution to the multi-monitor problem.Just wait a little while until the dual GPU cards come out, and then run those in SLI. You will be able to get effectively 4 Nvidia 7900 GTX cards powering it. It will be faster than any single card solution on 1 monitor now. And it will be cheap! Not. But it would be sweet. Or, you could run a seperate monitor on each card with this- Have 6 montiors running!!! oh my god, that would be insane.Either way, this is going to be the "must have" accessory for next X-MAS if it works well.
March 15, 200620 yr RobertDo you know if it is possible to get 1600x1200 with this hardware?I only saw examples and they used 1280x1024 I believe. The example was the card was set to 3x1280 or 3840 If I remember correctly.I know when you kick up the rez on your card then frames do suffer but I think they were saying it was minimal. I guess we really need first hand experiences. I certainly will need to have all the answers before I shell out.RegardsBob
March 16, 200620 yr >Do you know if it is possible to get 1600x1200 with this hardware? No, it's not. You get max of 3x1280x1024=3840x1024.Thx,Michael
March 16, 200620 yr I have the Parhelia which I have enjoyed for about 2 years. It adds a completely new dimension in flying as your screeen expands up to 6 times, actually 5 more sections. Bottom, full screen left and right. Here are some pitfalls:Some A/C that I have tested won't allow you to resize the panels. This is the exception more than the rule. You will have to resize your panels as they are stretched across three screens. I resize the 2D panels and place then in the center. You are driving five times more zones of graphic area, so FPS can be a issue. Then I save my flight with then resized panels. Most A/C allow you to resize and move panels. Panels and instruments in view sucks FPS. So even though you have more screen area to place more panels, each panel (unless it is all switches) that contains guages requiring updates will require processing time. This may or may not impact FPS depending on your hardware. My concern is FPS. Although, I think the Parhelia was underpowered to begin with. The good news is that you can use most high end video cards to drive it. So I don't know how this will all come out in the end. But with Vista and GPU cards, we shall see what the cost / performance models for the Matrox verses multiple GPUs cards.Either way it is great news, unless FSX will be too much bloatware and bog or cripple multi monitor platforms. Sure wish MS would release a XBox 360 OPTIMIZED version of FSX.Barry
March 16, 200620 yr Nice looking product. It's a shame they aren't making a DVI version of this. It seems strange to convert an analogue signal to digital, process it, then convert it back to analogue! Especially considering any high end GFX cards are going to have DVI. Further, DVI is becoming more popular on LCD's.Any idea of cost? Surely not worth much more than $200 USD?With the price of LCD monitors continuing to fall, it may be a cheaper (and better) option to purchase a single large widescreen panel.
March 16, 200620 yr too bad they dont make LCD monitors without any boarders on the sides! thanks for the link, very cool looking. If I had the cash Id buy 2 24" dell widescreen monitors
March 16, 200620 yr >Posted this in the cockpit builders forum but the general>user might be interested as well. Great great stuff.>>http://www.matrox.com/graphics/offhome/th2go/gaming/home.cfm>>Robert>Here is another site: http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/10/04/one...oard/page7.html
March 16, 200620 yr Hi there,Their website has an MSRP of $299. I wish it was less yet it is the only thing that does that so they are in total control so far.RegardsRobert
March 16, 200620 yr It is interesting.Using the Fresnel F550 lens and a custom box made, you can make the beazels of the monitors disappear.Kinda like this http://www.bugeyetech.com/avsim_files/bfse.htmlHmmmm......But then, what will I do with my Dell 24" Widescreen monitorManny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
April 11, 200620 yr I currently run dual monitors 2560 X 1024 in span mode with AMD 3700+ 2gigs ram and Leadtek 6600 vanilla slight overclock and get respectable frames 18 - 30 depending on scenery and aircraft. Good 18-20 in PMDG 737,744,LDS767 virtual cockpit approaching Imaginsim KEWR with Aerosoft Manhattan and fair weather. How much will another 1280 X 1024 tft display affect performance? Will get this and try it when it comes out. Likely I need a much stronger video card.
