April 1, 200620 yr HiI'm at last hoping to get a new system to run FS9 (not worrying about FSX yet!). I've been struggling with a P4 2.4Ghz with 512Mb RAM and a GeForce 3 Ti200 for the past three years, which actually runs FS9 not too badly for what I want it to do - just GA mostly (I'm not interested in AI or masses of scenery except the UK VFR packages and airports). There is a Dell system I am interested in which is a 3.4Ghz 800 FSB 2Mb cache with 1024 RAM and either a NVidia 6800 or a 7800. Do you think the 6800 is a good card? I'm sure it will be better than what I have got already but should I go for the 7800 or a different graphics card?Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks. David. April 1, 200620 yr Hi David,I recently bought a new computer (see below) and installed a 6800 card in place of the shared graphics. I'm very happy with the results. I don't know if the 7800 would be much better but that doesn't matter because I very happy with the one I have.hope this helps.
April 2, 200620 yr Author Thanks - do you know whether there is a great difference between the various 6800 cards? (6800 GT/XT etc) Intel I7-4770 3.4Ghz 16 Gb RAM nVidia GTX770 2Gb Windows 8.1 64 bit P3D 4.4/3.4 FSX SE
April 3, 200620 yr Before I bought my card I called the cards manufacturer (EVGA) and asked them what the difference was between the one I wanted to buy and other more expensive versions (of the 6800). In my case it had to do with certain speeds (dno't remember now). Once you find a card you are interested in, why not call the manufacturer and ask them? In my case the rep said the difference between the cards I was looking at wasn't that great and the lower priced card would be fine.Hope that helps.
