Help a fellow simmer out

Featured Replies

OK, here is the situation. I am a very fortunate simmer when it comes to my hardware. I tend to have the latest and greatest new hardware thanks to being obsessed with Newegg.com.Well thanks to that, I tend to end up with extra Hardware quite often. Typically this hardware ends up in either a back up system or a system for a family member or even worse a closet. Well right now, all of my family members have systems and I have my backups built but I still have extra hardware.I am prepared to offer some high end hardware at 50% off to help out a fellow simmer who might not be able to afford this stuff paying retail.I am really doing this in the hopes of helping out a simmer who really might not have been able to get this stuff but wants to improve their system. If no one wants them, I will probably end up building another system anyway ;)I have:Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe mobo. (new in box never been used) Top of the line 16x/16x SLI mobo $210 newwill sell for $110Corsair XMS TwinX2048CL2 in two gig pairs (2) (one set bran new one set 4 months old never OC'd)2 gigs in 2 x 1024 2 3 3 6 2T I have two of these for 4 gigs total. You can get 2 gigs of Corsair XMS for $100 or all 4 for $200.I have an Antec NeoPower 480 modular power supply $40 takes it...I have a ton more but these are the things that I have laying around that I can seeing really helping another's system. Let me know if anyone is interested...The mobo and Ram are on e-bay right now...I also have a CH pro-Throttle I will let go for $50 if someone wants it. Upgraded to the quad and do not use it anymore...Liquid CooledAMD 4000 San Diego2 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2Dual 7800 GTX 24 inch widescreen dual 19 inch LCDRaid-0psolksig.jpg

Hi Paul,About your banner.I don't want to hide my IP adress and I don't need to either.I don't want to hide what OS I'm running and I don't need to either.I don't want to hide what web browser and version I'm using and I don't need to either.Yes I'm very well protected! Just try to breake thru :)What's your point with that banner?Ulf B ;-)

I was always wondering about Paul's banner as well. Who cares. Try to get in.JimCYWG

Guys, tha banner is a joke, it just reads browser or reg settings. I don't even remeber which. You aren't really exposed at all. (well you might be, I don't know) It is just to get a rise out of people :).Now as for challenging me, I don't know that you want to do that LOL ;) I am an ex-hacker who moved into Network Security. IBM hired me from a large financial organization when they caught wind that I had been in and out of their internal systems. I help Architect Network Security for IBM, GE, Dupont, Boeing, Hess, Ernst and Young, Deloitte and Touche, some of the largest financial firms in the world (my financial customers are covered by Non-Disclosure agreements so I can not mention their names) as well as some of the largest hospitals in the world for HIPAA and SOX compliance.US Department of Defense and Defense Logistics Agency are just a few of the organizations I support on a day to day basis. In all seriousness and all BS aside, I deal in a very serious business and I have been doing this for 14 years at only 32 years old. I do some speaking engagements on the topic of Remote Access and perimiter defense so depending on where you live I might even be able to get you in to a lecture. I spoke in New York City at the Javits Convention center for InterOp and InfoSecurity.Seriously, this is what I do all day every day and one thing I would never do is assume that you are really locked down. I use a hardended Debian Linux box running IPTables and TCPWrappers on the perimiter of my network hooked into an IDS/IPS device doing packet inspection with an internal FW segmenting off my internal network from my DMZ. It would take the average person the rest of their life to get through this, it would take some of the people I work with less than ten minutes. Food for thought...Cheers guys, all in good fun,-PaulLiquid CooledAMD 4000 San Diego2 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2Dual 7800 GTX 24 inch widescreen dual 19 inch LCDRaid-0psolksig.jpg

That's funny Chuck, I can't believe in all this time I never told you what I do in the "real world" LOL. Before the company I am with now, I helped found IBM's Internet Security division. A very close friend of mine heads it up now out of RTP. That was in the late 90's Now IBM is one of my largest customers. It is a very small world in my industry. I am lucky, although I am relatively young (32) I started working for GTE Data Services when I was only a sophomore in college so I have over a decade of hands on security. I would never speak down either, in fact what I specialize in is dumbing down tech talk for executives to understand LOL It does me no good if people don't understand what I am saying, not to mention, there is just no need. BTW, that Debian Linux server I am running is a "pizza box." It is not your typical computer but a server that is roughly the size of a Pizza box. We all boast about our FS systems, This thing has dual 2.8 Xeon Processors 8 gigs of memory and the ability to support ~ 1500 people connected to it at once and the equivalent of 5 connections per user so ~ 7500 total connections at once. Only problem, NO VIDEO LOL. It is more than most small businesses run but a nice benefit of the job :)Speak to you soon on the other boards,-PaulLiquid CooledAMD 4000 San Diego2 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2Dual 7800 GTX 24 inch widescreen dual 19 inch LCDRaid-0psolksig.jpg
