August 18, 200619 yr Hello everybody,Over the years I have accumulated quite some hardware. Some of it will never be used again but for some stuff I can see another life.So is there a 15 inch tft monitor That I haven't used for two years but for some reason, I couldn't get say goodbye ti it.Now I have come across a website where they are selling touchscreens to put in front of a normal monitor. Is there anybody who uses touchscreens (for FMC for instance as that is the first application that comes to mind) and, as important as the first question, is there someone who uses such a clip-on touchscreen in front of the normal monitor?Anybody who wants to share his/her findings. All info appreciated.Luc 'Glaudrung' Brusselmans
August 19, 200619 yr Sounds interesting, esp. for FMC applications...but how would get a touch screen to work with FS?Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
August 20, 200619 yr Well,as I understand it, a touchscreen replaces the mouseclicks with actual touches on the screen. If that is correct, it can't be difficult to drag the FMC to a touchscreen (linked to your pc by means of your graphics card AND by USB/serial to translate the actual touching). As far as I can understand, the only thing you actual need are a touchscreen, its drivers and a free USB/serial port.check out this website:http://www.a1touchsolution.nl/Unfortunately, the website is in Dutch (which isn't a problem for me as I'm from Belgium).Luc 'Glaudrung' Brusselmans
August 20, 200619 yr >>check out this website:>http://www.a1touchsolution.nl/Perhaps FSX will have a way to which we can interface other devices, such as touchscreens, or serial/usb throttle quadrants, etc. That would really be neat. A touch screen is a great idea for an FMC, I can see a touchscreen to my right, as a 2nd or 3rd monitor, holding the FMC.>>Unfortunately, the website is in Dutch (which isn't a problem>for me as I'm from Belgium).>Do you know what "Walloon" is?Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
August 21, 200619 yr Rhett,I have asked the Dutch firm for more information ans as soon as I get some kind of answer, I'll pass it on .Fs-9 can use a serial throttle quadrant (I got one myself) by means of a simple driver. Take a look at the website of Precision Flight Controls (flypfc.com). They have a throttle quadrant available which uses the seral port of your pc.And no, I don't know what a 'Walloon' is.I know a 'Wallon'. It's the French name of my French speaking countrymen here in Belgium but I don't know a walloon...Luc BrusselmansBelgium
August 21, 200619 yr I use an ELO 19" LCD touch screen monitor for my GPS and other instrument panels etc... and yes FMC too. FMC is perfect for this. I move the Level-D MCP Panel to the ELO and use it with my fingers.....I have this monitor hooked as my second monitor in addition to my DELL 24" Widescreen for front view. I got it brandnew (open box item) on ebay for $600 or so..it came with no cable nor stand etc. No can tell its a touch screen from the outside. Its almost as bright as a regular lcd.For radios and stuff, I still prefer something like an avionics stack/Go flight etc. particulary where you have rotary knobs. Yes you can use touch screen for that... but I prefer the tactile feel of a rotary know. Also there is a limitation of right mouse click. There is no right click on a touch screen. So if you have anything that requires a right mouse click it will not work. all your touch click is considered left mouse click. Not a big factor...but there are some addons out there that may use right mouse click. Reality XP GPS530 uses rightmouse click but in its config you can tell it to work only with left click..so thats not an issue there. As far as converting a regular monitor to a touchscreen. I am not sure if thats suchs a good idea. How much does that gadget cost anyway? You wwould have all these contraption hooked up and not sure how good they work.I initially got into touchscreen by buying a 14" ELO CRT touchscreen on ebay for less than $90 and tried it out. It worked perfect. thats when I decided I wanted a good one and got the 19" LCD Touchscreen.BTW.. ELO is tops for touchscreen. But they do have different types... there is one type (i forget which one) thats not good for flight sim.. So go ELO website and read about the various types..and educate yourself before you spend a lot of money.Hope that helped.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
August 22, 200619 yr Manny,I just got word from the dutch company and they confirmed exactly what I assumed (and what you cofirmed in your post).Since I'm building a new rig at this very moment, I sure want such a screen. Now I don't know the ELO brand but that's probably because here in Belgium we still are barbarians when it comes down to electronics. However, I found some 'local' brands and I want to try them out.I would prefer a rather small screen to recreate that real FMC feeling but the smallest I have found sofar is a 15". (there is a 8" available but I have the gut feeling that it is too small). The dutch firm (look at their website) also states that right click emulation is possible so that opens even more possibilities.I will make sure to check this out.Luc BrusselmansBelgium

Thank you for identifying the correct term for me, I will not forget that information.
