August 18, 200619 yr Hi,Does anybody run with "Cool 'n' Quiet" active? I do and so far haven't noted any problems. According to the AMD dashboard it appears to be working fine.I have the dual core processor driver, optimizer and MS Hotfix installed.MikeASRock 939Dual-SATA2, AMD Athlon 64X2 3800+ (2000MHz)(K8 Manchester), 2GB Crucial PC3200 DDR400 Ram 1CMD (Dual Channel), (AGP 8X) Saphire ATI Radeon X800 XL (R430) 256MB (Omega 3.8.231 (Catalyst 6.3), Hyundai ImageQuest Q17 17" TFT LCD 20ms Monitor (1280x1024x32), SB Audigy2 ZS (Drivers version 5.12.0001.1164 WHQL), WD Caviar SE16 250GB (WD2500KS) SATA2 + Hitachi Deskstar 7K80 UDMA133 (80 GB), ASUS DRW-1608P2S Optical Drive, Antec P150 case with NeoHE 430W PSU, CH Products USB Yoke, Pedals and Fighterstick, Plantronics Headset and Mike combo, TrackIR Pro ver. 4.1 (build 28), Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse, Windows XP Home Edition (SP2), DirectX 9.0c, AGP Aperture = 128MB
August 18, 200619 yr Yep runs fine for me and, as its name suggests, keeps my CPU cool 'n quiet!.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

August 18, 200619 yr Author Hi Rhett,"I will not run Cool n Quiet on my FS rig."Mind explaining why? Thanks,Mike
August 18, 200619 yr Overclockers don't seem to use CNQ much, as it doesn't allow you to set the core voltage and can make an otherwise just-stable system unstable by the stress of regualrly changing core voltages and multipliers. I overclock, but if my max non-CNQ overclock is not much higher than my CNQ overclock, then I keep CNQ enabled (to save the planet and my ears :-lol )Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
August 19, 200619 yr Author Hi Gary,"Overclockers don't seem to use CNQ much, as it doesn't allow you to set the core voltage and can make an otherwise just-stable system unstable by the stress of regualrly changing core v"..that makes sense, thanks!I was just concerned that there may be some issues which could affect FS9's performance. I guess I already know the answer as my own experience appears to suggest that it has no affect at all. I have FS9 assigned to Core 0 and anything else running alongside to Core 1. Performance is the smoothest I have experienced, indeed it's quite uncanny at times. CNQ only seems to kick in while the system is idling and, of course, there ain't no way the system will idle while FS9 is running ;)Regards,Mike
August 21, 200619 yr Yes, that's the reason, I do presently overclock my FS system. Sorry I was not more descriptive but I was in a hurry. Usually I ramble on a lot more. haha. I should probably turn off the overclock, as it's only netting me 3-5 fps (when I'm already in the 30's (what does 3-5 fps matter if you're already getting 30+...not much) and come to think of it, I could probably still o/c to my present level with CNQ enabled...Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
