September 15, 200619 yr HiThanks to some exellent info gathered from some very useful threads, i've selected intel's e6600 c2d cpu for my upgrade. However, which mobo to select is proving difficult !!! I think i've narrowed it down to three:-MSI's 965 Neo-FAsus's P5BGigabytes GA-965P-S3They all seem very similar spec-wise but i was wondering if you guys could add any input (good or bad) about any of them ? Maybe even suggest alternatives.I appreciate that none of them support SLI - is this a wise decision ? gpu-wise, i was going to match them up to a BFG 7900GT OC.Any thoughts much appreciatedGary
September 15, 200619 yr Gary,I'm happy with my MSI P965 Neo.It is limited in the current BIOS to 333 FSB (which is where I have it set), but it's not a big deal if you don't plan on any major overclocking. I think the P5B and Gigabyte are hitting 400 FSB right now. That might be worth considering.I don't think you can go too far wrong with any of them. The MSI will save you a few $ though!Regards,Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
September 15, 200619 yr I'd suggest a Asus P5W Dexlux. Best Core 2 mobo at present IMO. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
September 15, 200619 yr Most of the game systems I'm seeing on forums and magazines that are using the Core2 Duo seem to prefer the Asus. That is the way I'm leaning.
September 15, 200619 yr I *Thought* around the October time frame the nVidia 590 chipset motherboards were suppose to start becoming avaliable...I havn't heard anything lately though??Not sure when you'll actually be taking the plunge?? If it will be a while yet..Then you may keep your eyes and ears peeled??The 590 chipset mb's will be the ones that support SLI...May not really be a factor for most folks though...However that's what I'm holding out for...Have Fun!!
September 15, 200619 yr P5W deluxe is around $250 It should be the best for that price!!!Go for it if your budget can stretch to it.As for Nforce 590 boards, I think ECS has just realeased one. If you want to overclock, doesn't sound like the nvidia chipsets will be up to much. Depends on what you want of course.
