September 21, 200619 yr I think I am going to breakdown and order a new system based on the C2D E6600,320HD,74HD 10K and with 2gig PC6400.I am going lite on the Vid card since DX10 will require another purchase down the road.I am currently debating the following : Purchase Direct From IBUYPOWER 1750 ABS my current Rig manufacturer 1979 Velocity Micro 2300 Or build my own for around 2K from New Egg Any input would be greatly appreciated Andy
September 21, 200619 yr I think building your own is the best. Even though I am just starting my first "build your own" project. But the cheapest and the best options vendor I have come across for custum building is thishttp://www.avadirect.com/product_details_c...or.asp?PRID=830They seem to have to the best and the largest number of options of components.I would go with these guys than any of the high prices companies like Velocity. Velocity seems to be way expensive.MannyAnother one... these don't seem too bad. But I should tell you..my opinions are based on what I see on the configuration and price options... not based on experience with purchasing from them.http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/cfgc2d.asp?v=dhttp://www.pugetsystems.com/configgaming.php?sys_id=8 Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
September 21, 200619 yr Building your own:I'm not so sure..from a finiancial standpoint..there is a super great benifit?? newegg does wind up running lots-o specials...That's kinda kewl..You can luck up and save some bucks from time to time...They'll have your stuff to your doorstep The Next Day if desired...That is Very Kewl IMHO... The reason I build my own is more from a control standpoint...I control everything..The component selection, price, quality of the build..The drive set-up(ie: partitions ect...)...Stuff like that...And..I enjoy building my own Rigs(Oh Yeah..I can call it a Rig)I vote build your own if your so inclined...I don't like nobody touchin' my Stuff..he heGood Luck!!
September 21, 200619 yr I am leaning towards building my own and using this exsisting rig as storage and maybe widefs.Andy
September 21, 200619 yr Actually I just put together this rig on avadirect and I thank you Manny for this site. They get very high ratings from resellerratings.com compared to Alienware,ABS,Cyberpower etc. Here is what I Put together on avadirect and BTW building a similar system using NewEgg cost almost the same. The issue I have with building a system is that all warranties are different down the road as where a company like avadirect hopefully honors the complete system for 3 yrs.THERMALTAKE, Tsunami Dream Silver Mid-Tower Case w/ Window, ATX, 400W PSU, Aluminum ANTEC, TruePower 2.0 TP-II 550, 550W Power Supply, 24-pin ATX, SLI Ready INTEL, D975XBX, LGA775, Intel 975X, 1066MHz FSB, DDR2-667 8GB/4, PCIe x16, SATA II RAID 5, Audio, Gb LAN, 2x FW, Retail INTEL, Core
