September 24, 200619 yr Hinew system i'm building..anyone see a problem here.excepting card which will be replaced when Dx10 arrives..Viewsonic VX2235wm 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor Intel Core 2 DUO E6700 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.67GHz (1066FSBAbit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit BFG GeForce 7950 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-ExpressWestern Digital Raptor 74GB WD740ADFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache Plextor PX-760A 18x18 Dual Layer DVD
September 24, 200619 yr There is no weak link in that sys :)Looks good, although me personally, I would not even go with that powerful of a vid card given the DX10 situation. I would probably spend <$300 on vid card right now, but if the $$ doesn't matter then go for it.I've never had a good experience with Plextor drives. You realize that you lose some efficiency with a modular PSU. But then modulars are nice for wire routing...pros and cons...pros and consRhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
September 25, 200619 yr I second that about the video card. 7900GT will be just fine for now like I did. Wait and see what happens with DX10.
September 25, 200619 yr Yes, a 7900GS is around $200, GT is $270 and 512M GT is $300. I'd be very reluctant to pay much more than this, especially given FS' history of having fairly conservative needs in the GPU department.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
September 25, 200619 yr Hi Folks, Looks like a great system. But are we sure the motherborad will support a DX10 card? I haven't seen any info on what might be required...Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
September 25, 200619 yr Noel,If DX10 cards don't support PCIe slots then we are ALL SOL. I know a lot of people recently put together new systems including myself and if I had to get another motherboard just for that then I'd wait a while. We MAY need a heaftier powersupply but I can't see a new motherboard as well.
September 25, 200619 yr I hope you're right! But then we were told the Core 2 chips would be socket 775 but it turned out only a very few mobos were actually compatible. I'd hate to get a new mobo and find myself in the same situation with DX10. I'm hanging off upgrading until we have some idea of DX10 system requirements.Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
September 25, 200619 yr >I'd hate to get a new mobo and find myself in the same>situation with DX10. >That would certainly be a marketing disaster for the video card companies! I can't concieve that they would make that mistake!
September 25, 200619 yr DX10 cards will follow the PCIe standard for hardware. As DX10 is an API, there is no reason to think that current motherboards with a PCIe slot will not accept DX10 cards. September 25, 200619 yr Hi rhettthe card is about 220.00 pounds(not too bad)could be a year before we see Dx10 cards..so i thought...get a decent one and then wait. thanks rhett steve
September 25, 200619 yr thanks to everyone for ideas.i'll swap the plextor for a pioneer maybe.. cheers steve
September 25, 200619 yr >thanks to everyone for ideas.i'll swap the plextor for a>pioneer maybe..> cheers> steveBenQ or LG - Pioneer not so good either in the DVD-RW stakes....(from what I have heard and read) Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
September 25, 200619 yr >I hope you're right! >He is right, DX10 cards will be PCI-E.If your mb has PCI-E you don't have to worry about that. Power Supply is another matter...we don't yet know the power requirements on these DX10 cards.RhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
