October 28, 200619 yr Has anybody with a Dell XPS Gen 3 system upgraded with this CPU?If you did, was it simply a drop-in-place, or did you have performance issues of any kind?.The most recent (Gen 3) BIOS of A07 will most likely be the last one. I'm curious to know if this BIOS can handle the E6600. The socket can. Thanks in advance,Mitch R.
October 28, 200619 yr I am unable to answer you Q. ButBe absolutely sure before spending money. The socket alone would not be enough. The Chip set of your MB shold be compatable with the CPU. 975X??) . The core 2 duo needs less power than the Pentiums. The power channeled via the MB???/ I think..thats what it is... also need to be compatable with the CPU. You may not even be able to change that silly Dell MB..cause they may not be the ATX MB they use in that Dell box.I have the Dell XPS Gen2 and there is not a chance I do anything to that silly box.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 29, 200619 yr Author Hi Manny,My Gen 3 chip set is the 925X and my Dell Mother Board is: OK3464As you know, any CPU variables are locked down by Dell, and actually, other than being able to turn threading off and on, that's about it!I love the performance and quality of my Gen 3, but miss the variables that I enjoyed when building my own....I guess that I'll have to contact Dell and see if it could be a drop-in deal. If not....I'll wait until after DX10/Vista comes out to see what direction to go in the build-it-from-the-CPU-up department. Thanks for your reply,Mitch R.
