Defragmentation doesn't work ?? HELP Gurus

Featured Replies

Hi AllYesterday I installed new ATI Catalyst 6.9 drivers, and installed more RAM on my PC.After installing I saw in the Task Manager that my system was running more services than it normally does.I went to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services. There I was deactivating something that causes the Computer to prevent Defragmentation !!When I go to The Disk Defragmenter Dialog box and hit 'Defragment' nothing happens - just nothing - no messages or anything. I can hit the button several times with no luck. :( :-hmmm Anyone know anything about what Services can cause this to happen?RegardsHenrik KorningBGGH

Disabling the Event Log service has been known to prevent diskeeper defrag from working, I'd check this first. The only ATI related services you need to disable for perfomance (should you choose) is ATi Hotkey poller and ATI Smart. I'd also recommend reading this tweak guide for Catalyst drivers: http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html. And, I would also recommend using the ATI TrayTools instead of the CCC, download and forum found here: http://www.guru3d.com/ - more features and less bloat. Good Luck and hope it helps.Regards, KendallDell 8400 3.2 GHZ H.T.800 FSB/2MB L22 GB 533 DDR2X800XT 256MB/Catalyst driver - 6.9's6x Adaptive AA/16x HQ A/FIntegrated SoundDual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905CH Yoke/Pedals
