November 5, 200619 yr I have a Dell 8400 P4 3.6 GHz HT with 1 gig of dual in-line memory: 2x512 (533,1R, 512). This of course takes 2 of the four memory slots. My question is I want to increase my memory to 2 gigs for Vista and FS. Can I put a 1 gig module in a slot or do I need 2x512 mb modules? Thanks for any help.

(or even 2x1GB if you plan on using Vista and FSX, which would put you at 3GB total). Dell's support forums can guide you as to which ram will work with the 8400, which can be finicky about ram upgrades - I have been able to get by using this Corsair value select found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145526. Not the best ram around, but I was able to pick up a gig for $20.00 awhile back, so I can't complain.Regards, KendallDell 8400 3.2 GHZ H.T.800 FSB/2MB L22 GB 533 DDR2X800XT 256MB/Catalyst driver - 6.9's6x Adaptive AA/16x HQ A/FIntegrated SoundDual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905CH Yoke/Pedals Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. November 15, 200619 yr Hi,The Dell manual advised 2 sticks of 512MB each.So did the Dell people when I called in to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB.I did the upgrade to 2GB.Performance has improved a "little bit" on my Dell 8400.Did you do the upgrade?Did it help you?My video card is ATI 128MB PCI express with newest Catalyst drivers.I have a P4 3GHs 2 core CPU.I think I will have to upgrade to a 512MB ATI PCI express to get the frame rates above 10 (KSFO) and get a boost in textures etc. What do you get from your Dell 8400?Have you been thinking about their $3000 extreme system?Best Regards, Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
