The added processing power required to perform the calculations to do this, would be too costly, especially with FSX, and is beyond the scope of the product. There is nothing preventing a 3rd party developer from creating 16: 9 bmps for wide screen panels themselves. Of course the same will be true with those. You wouldn't be able to use those on 4:3 monitors.
