February 3, 200719 yr Hi,On my 2 year old system I have been using an ATI 9800 Pro video card with acceptable results. This card only has 128mb of memory so I have been looking for an alternative card with more memory that would last me until I can get a new system.I found a GeForce 6200 with 256mb of memory and expected some improvement. Boy was I surprised. My frame rate dropped to less than half of what I was getting with the ATI card. And that was just sitting still on the ramp (FSX). Nothing I could do helped so I reinstalled my ATI card.I don't know how the two cards are supposed to compare but I sure did expect better results with twice the memory. Just an observation here.Jim
February 3, 200719 yr You should have asked us first! Or at the very least check out a site like Toms Hardware interactive video card guide. Yes, the 6200 runs like a piece of wet lettuce compared to your 9800. Hope you are able to put it in an office-type PC, where it would be put to good use.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 4, 200719 yr Moderator Hi Jim,I had a 9800Pro 128Mb and recently changed it for a Sapphire X1950Pro 512Mb AGP. I wanted to extend the life of my system for another 18 months until processors are fast enough to run FSX with comfort.Whilst you won't get any faster frame rates with a X1950 Pro over the 9800Pro what it does offer is much higher resolutions without loss of performance.I used to run at 1280*1024 on a 17" TFT. I'm now running 1920*1200 on a 24" Dell 2407 and getting the same frame rates. It cost 150UKP so is quite reasonable. And my 380Watt power supply is fine running it despite the quoted 420watt minimum.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). February 4, 200719 yr Author Hi Ray,Thanks for the advice. I'll look into getting the card you recommended. A lot of time it is a crap shoot when buying hardware, as I just found out.Jim
