April 4, 200719 yr Took the plung and did a new system upgrade. Found a reasonable price site that offered all the parts I was looking for. Also put a new printer and speaker system with it.My old system got damaged by condensation so I had to do something.Heres what I got coming:
April 5, 200719 yr That should roll out FS pretty good. Let us know what kind of performance you get. I'm curious how those new 4xxx series Core2's do with FS.I think if it were me I would want a second hard drive, like a slower 7200 rpm Cav, just to backup critical files and have a storage repository.I would not want to just have a Raptor. Hard drives are cheap enough though so you could always add that later.OS, yes that is a tough choice. Probably I would go Vista if I were building right now. But then, 32 or 64? Ugh, yet again another tough call.Late this year, I may go V64 but I am not sure yet.Nice vid card. You should be set for a while.I like how your power supply is called "Beast" :) the Beast power supply. heheh.I wonder what PRO_WIRING is. Maybe sleeved cables. Added +$50 to your price, no doubt.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
April 5, 200719 yr Thanks for the reply. Once I get it up and running I plan on buying an external HD and ghosting this one. I think its going to be XP Pro for now. Later I will put a whole new HD in and put Vista on it. I really think this set-up will last me for a while. With the MoBo able to up-grade to Quad core and the Video Card able to run DX10 and all.Pro-wiring is a $19 up charge that basically cleans up the wires after install allowing for better air flow. So that with the round cables should help a little with keeping it that much cooler.I'm definitely gonna need the forums help when I get it to over clocking since this will be my first time over clocking a CPU.
April 6, 200719 yr Yeah, the wiring setup is wise on your part...a lot of people don't realize how much wire clutter affects air flow. SATA cables are nice 'n small compared to IDE and that's nice these days.I'm not too up on overclocking the Core2's but there are a lot of people here who are and can assist you.The key for us FS people is that FS is a great burn-in program for overclocking--in other words if your overclock can run FS for hours on end without locking or CTD'ing then you probably have a stable overclock going.Prime95=meh SuperPI=mehGive me FS to burn it in. After all, FS is the main reason (I) we overclock, right?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
