April 10, 200719 yr Hi all,I'm in the planning stages of upgrading my pc with a new MB, CPU, memory, and GPU. I have a legitimate copy of Windows XP Home currently installed. What will I have to do to use this same OS on the upgraded system? (The old MB, Processor, will not be used in another system).I tried the MS support site, but couldn't find an understandable answer.Dale Dale
April 11, 200719 yr In my opinion, how I read the EULA, is that you can run one copy on ONE system at a time....so if you're other system is out of commission, then you can legally run it on your new system....that's my take on the XP EULA....other opinions may vary. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

(Now that MS checks your copy each time you install a update)Dale Dale
April 13, 200719 yr Author Ok, after wading through the Microsoft Technet on Product Activation for Windows XP (all 9 pages!) on the 3rd or 4th reading, I finally think I've got it.Despite the new hardware, my OS should still show as legally activated. If it doesn't, I can reactivate through the Internet or by phone, so long as I have the original OS registration number (I do).Since my copy dates back to 2002, following installation, I will have to run an immediate update to pick up SP2 plus all the other critical updates.Dale Dale
