Overclocking Core 2 Duo? FPS results?

I understand that % gains can be easily had from overclocking Intel Core 2 Duo CPU's -- but my question to anyone who has done this, does it really show up as a real FPS increase in the real world - and is the FPS increase sufficient to justify any possible risk (plus the extra cost of an addon cooler?)Thanks Barry

Probably can't be bothered to reply to a question that has been covered a hundred times or more Barry. Did you try the search function?Yes, there are gains to be had. Massive in some cases. The forum already has details. But it's not for the faint-hearted and you'd better know your `FSB` from your `multiplier` from your `voltage` from your `clock speed` before you start, and have really, really good cooling solutions. You won't get a warranty claim on overclocked componentry that goes bang!Allcott

I don't have a Core2 :)I can say, on my A64 chip, the fps gains seem to be pretty much 1-to-1. 10% overclock = 10% gain in fps in FSX. 20% = 20%. With the core 2 Duo you don't need anything special, just an aftermarket cooler like the zalman. My cousin went all the way to 3.4 with his and a zalman fan, its been running for month's and not flinching. Plus, since the price will fall crazy in the next 3 month's as it did on the 22nd of this month, they are a bargain. Overclocking is too easy these days not to do it, in my opinion. Most of it can be done by simply changing settings in the bios. It has actually become "user friendly." Heck, I'm oc'ing my 3700+ by about 300 mhz on the stock cooler, and it hasn't had one hickcup in over a year.Danon O.
