Do i really need to spend 1,500USD?

right now with my AMD64 3700+ overclocked to 2.4ghz 1gb ram nvidia 6600gt overclocked i actually get "reasonable" performance out of FSX until things just go blurry cuz my system gets overloaded. do i really need to buy a new core 2 duo system for 1500bucks or if i just upgrade to 2gb and overclock a bit more to say close to 3ghz..should that keep me from "capping" out given reasonable settings in FSX for my system?thx for help

Although upgrading to 2GB will not likely completely fix your blurries, it should improve your FSX experience (especially if you run a few external addons) and doesn't cost much at the moment. I'd do that first if you are otherwise happy with how FSX performs.Gary

Your sig says you have a 3000+, and your post says 3700+At any rate I have a similar system (an o/c'ed 3700+) and I have 2 gb ram, and it does pretty well in FSX. Well enough that I do not have any pressing need to upgrade at this time.FSX likes 2 gb ram.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

My 3200 clocks at 2.2GHz and to stay out of BIOS, I use the tuner from Gigabyte to oc. So basically, I just up my FSB everytime I need the extra power, especially for FS9. Out of curiosity, what does the 3700 clock at out of the box? And if I upgraded to 2GB PC3200, could I put off a system upgrade for a while and start running FSX?

>My 3200 clocks at 2.2GHz and to stay out of BIOS, I use the>tuner from Gigabyte to oc. So you have a 3200+ cpu then. That would be enough cpu to run FSX for me, although you possibly would want more detail...I am not familiar with your BIOS and ram, but you might be able to run 1T on your ram, and/or drop the latency for a slight (5-10%) fps boost. But before doing this, you should make sure you know where your BIOS reset jumper is, just in case you get an unbootable system by pushing latency too far.>So basically, I just up my FSB>everytime I need the extra power, especially for FS9. Out of>curiosity, what does the 3700 clock at out of the box? With my hardware (specs in sig, below) the 3700+ will clock to about 2.7 to 2.8 on stock air, but not stable in FS. Really 2.5 to 2.6 is about it for a demanding app like FS with my ram and motherboard. I went up to 2.7, which was Prime95 stable but not stable in FS.I have heard of people running DFI motherboards and Zalmans and getting closer to 3.0 ghz, and with liquid for sure.>And if>I upgraded to 2GB PC3200, could I put off a system upgrade for>a while and start running FSX?It depends on how satisfied you would be with sliders turned down. Some people are not. Some people are.PC3200 won't make that big of a difference. 1 to 2 gb would make some difference but ultimately cpu speed is king.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian
