Q6600 upgrade...question.

Featured Replies

Is there anything special I need to do to FSX, i.e. delete and rebuild .cfg file after installing my Q6600, or will FSX (with SP1 of course) wake up, smell the coffee, and do the required magic by itself?I know, I know...deleting the .cfg file is an easy exercise, but rebuilding all those joystick and other settings ain't!TIA,bt

Thanks!bt

Assuming that you have upgraded from dual to quad core and that is the only change you made, then there should be no need to rebuild your FSX.CFG file. Just make sure windows task manage shows all four cores firing at some stage while FSX is running.Gary

Thanks Gary. That is exactly what I'm doing. The dually is going into a PC for my son, so even if it's not much improvement, its progress. Hopefully, the Q6600 will breath a little more life in my FSX.Best,bt

Hopefully, the Q6600 will>breath a little more life in my FSX.>I just helped build a Q6600 system and installed FSX on it. The quad will load faster but once flying frame rate seems to depend on the cpu speed alone vs a core 2 duo. FSX seems best IMO where you can get the cpu in the 3.0GHZ + range, many have reached that with the quad, but not as easy as with a duo.For other apps like video rendering etc, the quad flys :)
