August 24, 200718 yr Has anyone tried out these two MS Vista hot fixes?Performance Update for Windows Vista (KB938979) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enReliability Update for Windows Vista (KB938194)http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enFSX seems to run and look much better since I installed these two updates...they were not part of the regular monthly update. There are separate downloads for vista 32 & 64. August 24, 200718 yr For me there is no difference with these updates installed. It doesn't really matter because I'm actually happy with the performance of FSX.
August 24, 200718 yr Nice find. I'll give them a try in the next day or so. I noticed that the DXGKRNL.SYS module is mentioned in the KB9384194 update. It appears that this is the Vista DirectX interface module and is the same module mentioned in the video memory usage (OOM) fix. They must have fixed something related to DirectX and this is encouraging.
August 24, 200718 yr I'm also in the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' mode, but the DXKRNL module caught my eye.
August 25, 200718 yr I tried both of the updates. On my system (Vista 32) these updates introduced alot of stutters and some MAJOR pauses within in FSX.I uninstalled them and FSX is now back to being nice and smooth.Heed the advice "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
August 25, 200718 yr I think I will heed it. I double checked the modules listed in the 'performance' and 'OOM' fixes. The DXGKRNL module is indeed listed in both and the one in the OOM fix has a later date and version than the one in the fixes mentioned in this thread. It will be interesting to see what the Aug 28 release of the OOM fix finally is. Maybe they will all be rolled into a 'cumulative update'.
