Voltage for ATI X1950 Pro

Featured Replies

Hello All, Was wondering what the voltage requirement for the ATI X1950 Pro is. Is it 1.5v or 1.8v? Default seems to pop up at 1.8, but I don't think that is correct . . . please helpBest,Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpg

I can't tell you that Clay, but with just a normal installation, and then running Cat 7.1's...it works just fine. Are you having issues?Mitch

Thanks guys, I thought that was correct, but my AI booster wants to give it 1.8, so I'll just keep turning it down to 1.5 when I oc. Thanks again.Best, Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpg

I know the demand of the card off the power supply is 30A!! off the 12v rail, but it seems you are looking for a different voltage. But there is quite an evolution taking place with power supply characteristics and demands of the new high power video cards. Several 1950 series are burning out because of inadequate power supply at the 12v level. Lots of discussion at the Sapphire forum, I am off to buy a better PSU with lots of amps on the 12v railhttp://www.sapphiretech.com/en/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4NigelVancouver

I bought an Enermax Liberty 500W (30A available on 12V) and it really goes well with X1950 Pro and any processor you can throw at it. I really recommend this PSU.

Hi Nigel,"I know the demand of the card off the power supply is 30A!! off the 12v rail"Where on earth did you read that?!Look at this review. The following is a link to the relevant page.http://www.guru3d.com/article/content/386/3As you can see, they are recommending a 420W PSU minimum if you are not considering a Crossfire or SLI configuration. The 12v rail should be able to support 20amps.I have the (PCI-E)Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB and I can vouch for the fact that my 430W (Neo HE 430) PSU copes just fine. Games like Oblivion seem to drive this card the hardest, if temps are any indication, and it has never faltered. I installed it towards the end of January 2007.MikeASRock 939Dual-SATA2, AMD Athlon 64X2 4800+ (2400MHz)(Toledo), 2GB Crucial PC3200 DDR400 Ram 3-3-3-8 (2T)(Dual Channel), (PCI-E)Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB (Catalyst 7.1 WHQL), Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22" LCD Display Monitor (1680x1050x32), SB Audigy2 ZS Platinum (Drivers version 5.12.0001.1196 WHQL), WD Caviar SE16 250GB (WD2500KS) SATAII + Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 ATA133 UDMA-6 (320 GB), ASUS DRW-1608P2S Optical Drive, Antec P150 case with NeoHE 430W PSU, CH Products USB Yoke, Pedals and Fighterstick, Creative Gaming Headset HS-900, TrackIR Pro ver. 4.1 (build 29) with TrackClip Pro, Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse, Windows XP Home Edition (SP2), DirectX 9.0c

I totally agree with you Mike. My Dell has a 450 watt PSU and I have only had solid, stellar performance from my ATI built 1950 Pro part at 256 MB.I went over to the Sapphire forum and found that most that claimed to have problems were with using the AGP variety. Might there be a problem with high-end cards on that older bus?Might be....Mitch

I have the Sapphire X1950XT 512mb, and it shows 30A at 12v on the box. Once knowing this demand I am pretty sure I saw it on the box of a X1950PRO in a store. The Sapphire forum concerns are not only for the 1950PRO AGP, several of the 19XX cards are being mentioned. My point is that the selection of a PSU now has become more sophisticated. Not only do you look at the total wattage but you need to make sure the 12v rail handles the new GPU's. Apparantly some cards are dying from prolonged use with an inadequate power supply specifically to them.My current PSU only gives 18A on each of two 12v rails, I have still the CPU, three hard drives two optical drives and sound card to supply, so I am going to look for a better PSU before some damage occurs.Nigel

All of the above, noted. Just out of interest, I'll check mine. Being that I bought the Dell, and didn't build this one myself, I imagine that Dell took into consideration that one could max out all the empty slots in this rig. I think I am ok, in that I replaced an X800XT that draws more power than the 1950. BTW, have you noticed anything different in game play and simulation usage with your 512 part over the 256 that I assume you replaced? If so...how 'bout you post your observations. If this 1950 ever died, I would consider to replace the part with a 512 or higher vid Ram version. The prices are starting to say..'why not?!?'Mitch

Hi MitchBefore I had an AMD64-3500+ and an ATI X800XL 256mb card which was great in FS9 and good in FSX except around cities and big airports. Then disaster struck, my GigaByte mbo with 939 socket and AGP slot failed and I could not find another mbo with these attributes. So great expense with a new mbo, I changed to Intel Duo 6400, 2MB 800mhz RAM and the Sapphire X1950XT 512mb. A substantial improvement in performance in FSX, particularly at my own CYVR scenery where I am usually about 15 fps although it may drop to 10 or just under 9fps but I have a fairly heavy load of AI traffic. But what a 512mb GPU does I don't know, I still get more blurries than I would like. The X1950XT 512mb got a very good review at either Yom's or Guru 3D, can't remember which.Hope this helpsNigelVancouver

Hi Nigel,Thank you for your comments. Yes, they do help. I think the 1950 Pro is great, and will, if it dies for any reason...probably go for the 512. The prices are really dropping around. I have not had any issues with the 256 part, but then again, am flying FS9. :) For the bucks, probably another on board 256 meg can't hurt even if it actually doesn't really do any thing visually at present. You know what I mean?See ya, up there...Mitch
