October 5, 200718 yr Hi, I've been reading posts about using Symantec products and generally speaking people think they hinder FSX performance- my question is simple; should I go to a whole new AV program or just turn off Norton and pull out the phone cable? Thanks
October 5, 200718 yr Long ago Norton (now Symantec) used to make some great products, they also at that time were the only company making such products. Over the years their programs have evolved into very complete resource hogs. I used to be a great proponent of Symantec prodcuts. I no longer use any of their products nor do I recommend them to anyone anymore. You will notice a great improvement in performance if you remove all instances of the Symantec software. If you need to have anti-virus protection I would recommend either AVG or NOD-32 both have a very small footprint and use very little resources. If you have the space there is also the option of setting up your system for dual boot. So that you can optimize one OS for gaming and utilize the other OS for everything else.
October 5, 200718 yr Moderator Uninstall the Symantec product(s) and try others. Unfortunately, Symantec believes they are the only game in town and uses up major resources not to mention making hidden changes to the system.IMHO, they are bad news and the cause of a lot of incompatibility issues. Turning them off does little in this regard.Q6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.6Evga 680i A1 with P30 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx Kandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/ RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
